About us
King Alfred’s is a learning community with a passionate, talented and dedicated staff, new and refurbished learning spaces for 21st century learning, the offer of an outstanding sixth form ranked amongst the best in the country, and a wealth of extra-curricular trips, visits and activities for students to enjoy as part of their wider learning outside the classroom. Furthermore, King Alfred’s has an enviable reputation for providing outstanding quality and breadth of pastoral care to all students through an experienced and dedicated team of pastoral staff and student managers. This enables students to develop as individuals with confidence and well-being throughout their school career. This strength of King Alfred’s was, quite rightly, recognised by inspectors in the recent Ofsted inspection when inspectors noted that: ‘Pupils’ welfare and safety has the highest priority. Personal, social and health education plays a key part in ensuring that pupils are happy, safe and very well cared for.’

Did you know King Alfred's offers School Experience visits for anyone considering teaching as a career? Its a great way to get a taste for working in a secondary school before applying for initial teacher training. Please see the feedback below from a recent School Experience visitor: "I had an amazing time at KA's last Tuesday. I was very impressed by my placement organisation and all the information you sent me before my visit. The year range was just perfect; I caught a glimpse of what my likely day-to-day would look like, how the lessons were taught, and how the students engaged. During the breaks, when I went to the faculty room, I felt very welcome, and my perception was that the faculty itself was a community, as shown by the way they spoke to each other, the pictures on the wall, and their overall disposition. I had some time to speak with Dr. Kirton about his experience as a teacher, which was enlightening. I classify my experience at KA as very positive, and it just confirmed my choice of pursuing secondary teaching."
