The Farm Credit Administration is pleased to announce the Senate confirmation of Glen R. Smith to be under secretary for rural development at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Glen has been a valued member of the FCA board since 2017 and served as chairman and chief executive officer from July 2019 to October 2022. During his tenure, he provided thoughtful, steady leadership that reinforced the safety and soundness of the Farm Credit System, the largest provider of credit to American agriculture. His guidance ensured that farmers, ranchers, cooperatives, and rural businesses continue to have reliable access to the financing they need to grow and succeed. A fifth-generation farmer from Atlantic, Iowa, Glen has always brought a practical, on-the-ground perspective to his work. He understands firsthand the critical role of credit in rural operations and has been a strong advocate for young, beginning, and small farmers and ranchers. His service on the FCA board, including as chairman of the Farm Credit System Insurance Corporation, reflected a deep commitment to the long-term strength and stability of rural credit markets.
