Supercell is a Finnish mobile games company with offices in Helsinki, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, and London. You might know us as the makers of Hay Day, Clash of Clans, Boom Beach, Clash Royale, Brawl Stars, and Squad Busters. Our mission is to create great games that as many people as possible play for years and that are remembered forever. So, how do we make great games? By putting together the best teams and giving them the freedom and independence to succeed. And by taking risks, failing, sharing learnings, and killing lots of projects. We love that you interact with us!     I don’t post often, but I wanted to share a bit of appreciation to Supercell. One of the many perks that they offer is that employees can take a two-month paid leave for every four years that we work at the company. As an old timer, this is not the first one, but I’m yet again starting another sabbatical leave tomorrow. It’s the perfect time to spend quality time with the family and friends, go back to a proper exercise routine, recharge batteries and come back with hunger for new challenges. When I explain this kind of benefit to my friends (some of them industry peers), I can’t help to feel half ashamed and half grateful of how lucky we are. Anyway, have a good summer! ❤️

  • Pride at the workstation and beyond 🌈 As part of the Better Games Together network, we’re joining friends across the games industry in celebrating LGBTQIA+ game makers, players and communities.   • Our oldest game turns 14 this Sunday. An impressive age for a mobile game. What’s more impressive is the team’s dedication to a bit. In three years, they grew from just a few people to over 60. Somewhere along the way, a few people started wearing flannel, half the team accidentally began cosplaying as Greg, and eventually the question “when do we wear the flannel shirt?” became important enough to require official guidance. Now Flannel Fridays are a thing. Even on video calls from home. The team continues to rebuild and develop the game for the players, and they firmly believe its best days are still ahead.     We were delighted to host Mrs. Suzanne Innes-Stubb, spouse of the President of Finland, and Her Excellency Mrs. Rachael Ruto, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, at our Helsinki office this week for a roundtable on women’s inclusion in the Finnish games industry. The discussion brought together voices from Finnish games and organizations advancing equality in technology to discuss how we can better support women’s participation and inclusion. Big thank you to all participants Taina Myöhänen from Tampere University, Elina Sievänen from We in Games Finland, Jaana Hirsikangas from UN Women Finland, Milja Köpsi from Women Who Code, and our own Sheila N. and Deborah Mensah-Bonsu.     Our Animation & Game Design students spent the day inside Supercell's London studio, the developer behind Clash Royale and Brawl Stars. They interviewed Technical Artist Ellie about breaking into the games industry, toured the studio, and saw how a real development team works up close. As student Sophie put it, the visit showed her exactly how a game studio runs. Industry trips like this are part of what a creative media course at Stanmore offers, alongside the facilities, teaching, and connections that help students build a career in the field.
