What is a target website?

A target website is simply the website, app or platform you connect to through a proxy: a search engine you track rankings on, a marketplace you monitor prices on, a social network where you manage accounts. Every target website treats visitors a little differently. Some care most about where you are, some about which network you're on, and some about whether your IP looks like a real home or phone connection.

That's why the right proxy depends on the target website. A price check on Amazon, a TikTok account and a scheduled Google rank check all work best with a different setup. The guides below cover each popular target website on its own: what people use proxies for there, which proxy type fits, how to target the right location and network, and how to set it up.

Choose your target website

Search engines and SEO

Track rankings, ads and local results from any country or city.

Travel, property and jobs

See the prices, listings and vacancies people in each city see.

Browsers and tools

Set up ProxyEmpire in the browser or tool you already use.

Using an anti-detect browser? Setup guides for more than a dozen of them are on our integrations page, and industry use cases are on the use cases page.

Which proxy type works best for each target website

The same four proxy types cover every target website. What changes is which one fits the job. As a rule, the stricter a target website is about new or automated visitors, the more it pays to use IPs from real home and mobile connections, and the more an account depends on looking stable, the more it pays to keep one IP per account.

Need raw speed for lightly protected target websites? Rotating datacenter proxies start at $0.35/GB in 62 countries, with a new IP per request or sticky sessions.

Target by location as well as by website

Most target websites show different results depending on where you are. Google ranks differently in Chicago and Dallas, Booking.com prices change by country, and a marketplace can show different stock in each region. With ProxyEmpire, rotating residential and mobile proxies can be targeted by country, region or state, city, ZIP code, ISP or mobile carrier, ASN and OS fingerprint, and none of that costs extra.

Static residential and datacenter proxies are targeted by country. Static residential IPs are sold in 24 countries and datacenter IPs in 62. See every country, region and city we cover on the proxy locations page.

Set up proxies for any target website in three steps

1. Start the trialCreate an account with the $1.97 trial, then choose rotating residential, rotating mobile, static residential or datacenter in the dashboard.
2. Pick location and sessionSet the country, then region, city, ZIP, ISP or carrier, and choose a sticky session or a new IP per request.
3. Connect your toolEnter the host, port, username and password in your browser, app or script over HTTP, HTTPS or SOCKS5.

Don't see your target website?

The guides above cover the most popular target websites, but ProxyEmpire works with nearly any website or app that uses standard web ports. A few site categories are restricted on the network by default, including banks, payment processors such as PayPal and Stripe, and crypto exchanges, and only ports 80 and 443 are open. If you need access to a restricted site for a legitimate reason, complete KYC in your dashboard and send your use case to support for review. Our 24/7 support team can also tell you which proxy type fits a target website that isn't listed here.
