NewPipe is an app that allows you to play YouTube videos with a whole host of additional features. The app uses the web version of YouTube to get content, so it doesn't use any API or library that depends on Google's framework. Thanks to this, NewPipe allows you to play YouTube videos even when you don't have Google Play Services installed. In addition to YouTube, NewPipe also allows access to content from other platforms such as SoundCloud.
Download YouTube videos to watch offline
The most useful feature of NewPipe is that it allows you to download videos from YouTube, choosing between 144p, 240p, 360p, 480p, 720p and 1080p for both playback and download resolutions. NewPipe doesn't let you download videos in 4K, but it does allow you to download them in audio formats and get them in the bit rate you want. By default, music downloaded for free from YouTube has a bit rate of 128 Kbps, and you can always see the size of the content you want to download.
Background or popup player
Another of the most useful features of NewPipe is that you can watch content in the background. This means you can keep listening to content, whether it's a video, podcast or music, with your device screen locked. When playing in the background, the app only downloads content audio to save data. You can also play it in a thumbnail window that draws over other apps.
Ad-free
NewPipe blocks all ads displayed in YouTube videos. This allows you to directly access content without having to wait or tap to skip the ad. You can also watch related videos or read the comments without having to swipe too much like in the official app.
Login with your account not possible
One of the few drawbacks of using NewPipe is that you can't log in with your YouTube account. This means that recommendations based on your search history won't appear. If you want content from a channel to be displayed when you open the app, you'll have to manually subscribe again. The app allows you to export these subscriptions at a later date so you don't lose them.
Manage your favorites and history
You can create playlists and mark videos as favorites for easy access in NewPipe. Another convenient feature is that you can review your playback history to see all the videos you have played, so you can find them quickly any time you want.
Download the NewPipe APK and enjoy YouTube with this alternative app to Vanced.
