September 2026 Update
New COTA routes are on the road, construction has begun on the first LinkUS-funded project and major corridor projects continue moving toward construction. We have all this and more in the September 2026 Progress Report. These progress reports highlight key achievements, project timelines and upcoming opportunities for community engagement.
Since 2024
- New Line 30 launched (Hilliard-OSU)
- Line 1 expanded to Dublin
- Midnight service added on all frequent and standard lines
- 8 lines with improved frequency
- 15 lines with expanded hours
- 97 more Operators hired (735 total)
- 76 more CNG buses purchased (38 arriving September and October 2026)
- 37 sidewalk and trail projects funded in 2026, totaling $29.9 million
- Tap To Pay launched
- COTA Mainstream hours extended to complement fixed-route service
- COTA Mainstream app launched, letting customers with mobility needs book trips and pay fares by phone, tablet or computer

Key Highlights
- A New Connection to OSU: Line 30 now connects Hilliard, Upper Arlington, The Ohio State University and Downtown Columbus, running every 30 minutes, seven days a week.
- Breaking Ground: Construction is underway on the region’s first LinkUS-funded infrastructure project, the Hoover Road Pedestrian Bridge in Grove City.
- More COTA Service on the Way: COTA’s Board approved a five-year Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP) to grow transit service across Central Ohio by about 30% by 2031.
Project Status Updates
- West Broad Street BRT: Design work is 90% complete. The project recently passed the Federal Transit Administration’s Capital Investment Grant Risk Assessment review, a required step toward securing funding for construction.
- East Main Street BRT: The corridor is nearing 90% design. The final design plans are expected to be complete in 2027.
- Northwest BRT: Design work is 30% complete. GFT, an architecture, engineering and construction firm, will begin work in October 2026 to complete the project’s design and oversee construction.
- Sidewalks, Bikeways and Trails: The COTA Board approved a five-year plan funding 75 sidewalk, bikeway and trail projects across Central Ohio through 2031.
Design concepts are subject to change as planning, engineering and public engagement continue.
