What changed for Mage in WoW Forever?
- October 15, 2026 patch notes.
- Arcane Blast is redesigned as a 1.5 s cast. Each cast grants 15% of your Intellect as extra spell damage and raises the cost of the next Arcane Blast.
- Arcane Wrath is a new 16-point gold talent: a 3.5 s cast with damage close to Fireball’s, plus damage as if you had 5% of your maximum mana as spell power.
- Ice Lance against frozen targets now deals 200% more damage (was 300%).
- Frost Blast is a new level 24 spell: a 1.5 s cast that slows by 40% and benefits from your Frostbolt talents. Every change by date is in our October 15 patch notes.
Blizzard reworked all 9 classes for Forever. It has written up the Paladin, Hunter, Druid, Priest and Warrior in full, and the Mage, Rogue, Shaman and Warlock posts followed on 7 October.
Blizzard’s 7 October Mage post adds Frostfire Bolt at level 40, a spell that counts as both Fire and Frost. The Mage got its video in part 2 of Blizzard's 3-part class highlight series, with the Hunter and Paladin, and the series finished on 6 October.
The 15 October notes also move Missile Barrage to the 1st row as a 2-point talent that Arcane Missiles hits can trigger. Critical Mass now takes up to 5 points for 10% crit, Fire Power is redesigned as a 3-point talent worth up to 12% Fire damage, and Fire Blast always adds a Heating Up charge. Cone of Cold slows its 1st 4 targets by an extra 10% for 3 seconds longer, and Winter’s Chill is redesigned around Cone of Cold and no longer adds crit chance.
Shared caster changes that every
Mage uses: spell, melee and ranged hit are 1 stat, crit is 1 stat, and caster weapons grant spell damage and healing.
Bonus healing on gear includes 1/3 as much bonus damage. That line matters more for healers. A
Mage still reads it on hybrid loot.
Confirmed class lines across Forever sit on class changes. Role context is on the tier list.
If you own an upgrade pack, the Skyborne Heroic Pack included, you can reserve your
Mage's name from 27 October to 3 November 2026. During that window you can create and customize up to 3 characters. Names are handed out in the order players claim them, so a popular Mage name can still be taken. Every Forever name is a given name plus a surname, and only the full pair has to be unique in your region.

On the quest route the hours go to whoever sits at the keyboard. A booster takes them on your Mage.

Build your Starter Pack →Orc Mage in WoW Forever
Orc
Mage is 1 of the 6 new race and class combos Blizzard named for Forever, with more planned later.
The other 5 named combos are
Gnome
Priest,
Human
Hunter,
Dwarf
Shaman,
Troll
Warlock and
Undead
Paladin.
Orc racials that hit a
Mage start with Blood Fury: +10% attack and spell power for 15s, on a 3 minute cooldown since 15 October (was 2 minutes).
Since 15 October Shatter Curse cuts magic damage taken by 5% (was 15%) and no longer grants immunity. Hardiness cuts stun duration by 20%. Savage replaces Axe Specialization: +1% critical strike chance.
Blood Fury and Shatter Curse are the lines a caster
Orc actually presses. Savage does not depend on weapon type, so a caster gets its crit too.
Orc
Mage is free with a normal subscription. It does not need the Skyborne pack.
Best race for Mage in WoW Forever
6 races can roll a
Mage in Forever. On the
Horde side they are
Orc,
Troll and
Undead, and on the
Alliance side
Gnome,
Human and High Order Skyborne.
The published tables leave
Mage off the
Tauren,
Dwarf,
Night Elf and Windshaper Skyborne rows.
| Race | Faction | Racials that hit Mage play |
|---|---|---|
| Blood Fury (+10% AP/SP, 15s, 3 min cooldown since 15 October); Shatter Curse (cuts magic damage taken by 5%); Savage (+1% crit, new 15 October); Hardiness (−20% stun duration) | ||
| Escape Artist; Eureka! (−cost / +10% damage; an 8 s buff with no charges since 15 October); Expansive Mind (+5% Mana) | ||
| Will to Survive (remove stuns); The | ||
| Berserking (+10% cast and attack speed, 10s); Rapid Regeneration; Regeneration (20% health regen in combat since 15 October, was 10%) | ||
| High Order Skyborne | Walk on Air (90 s cooldown); Read Ley Line (+100% Health and Mana regen, castable while moving, at least 30 s); Wind Blessed (+3% haste since 15 October); Elemental Insight |
Of the 2 Skyborne factions, only the
Alliance's High Order gets the
Mage. Windshaper Skyborne on the
Horde side get the
Shaman in its place.
Skyborne
Mages play levels 1 to 12 on
Zephras Isle, and the race comes with the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a bigger pack. On the US Battle.net shop the Heroic Pack costs $29.99, the Epic Pack $59.99 and the Warcraft Forever Collection $79.99.
Best Mage race by faction, from our boards. Horde: Orc for raids (Blood Fury, +10% spell power for 15 seconds), with Troll and Berserking close behind; for PvP, Orc Hardiness or Undead Will of the Forsaken. Alliance: Gnome for both modes (Eureka!, Expansive Mind, Escape Artist), and Human for PvP with Will to Survive.
Every racial in full is on racials, and the faction rules for the new race are on Skyborne.

Mage talents at 20 and at 60
Blizzard's stated aim for Forever is that all 27
talent trees earn a place in a group, the
Mage's 3 among them. Arcane, Fire and Frost were their Classic names. Blizzard named the Forever Mage talents in its 7 October post.
Each
Mage tree keeps its Classic row count. Milestones worth 1 point sit at 11, 21 and 31, and a new milestone arrives at 16. Some talents are untouched since patch 1.12, some were tuned, and some are new, filling room freed by buffs that became baseline.
Improved Mark of the Wild, Blessing of Kings and Divine Spirit are those baseline buffs. The support classes around a
Mage stop spending points on them.
Every class gets 51 points at level 60, the Classic total. Test the
Mage trees on launch day: the beta closed on 23 October, and beta progress stays behind.
Level 60 Mage builds come after Blizzard's class posts. The talent calculator page explains the milestones for every class.
The 15 October notes rework all 3 trees. Arcane Wrath is the new Arcane 16-point gold talent, a 3.5 s cast with damage close to Fireball’s, plus damage as if you had 5% of your maximum mana as spell power. Missile Barrage moves to the 1st row as a 2-point talent, and Arcane Missiles hits can now trigger it. In Fire, Critical Mass now takes up to 5 points for 10% crit, Fire Power is redesigned as a 3-point talent worth up to 12% Fire damage, and Fire Blast always adds a Heating Up charge.
Leveling a Mage from 1 to 60
For a
Mage, the 3 XP rules Blizzard confirmed decide the route. Dungeon mobs give less XP than before. The 1st run of each
dungeon's
quests gives more, though the 1 October beta build cut that bonus by 50% and beta groups now skip trash. The curve itself from 1 to 60 is unchanged from Classic.
Orc,
Troll and
Undead
Mages start on the
Horde side, and
Gnome and
Human Mages on the
Alliance side. A High Order Skyborne Mage plays levels 1 to 12 on
Zephras Isle before joining the shared world. Launch is 4 November 2026 at 3:00 PM PST, with every character at level 1 and the cap at 60.
Forever writes 1,000+ new quests into the journey from 1 to 60. Around the mid 30s to the mid 40s, 150+ of them are in the
Riverglades. The late levels belong to
Mount Hyjal, the endgame leveling zone Blizzard named. Food can add a small XP bonus as well as stats. Flying
mounts do not exist in Forever.
Blizzard has given every new dungeon a level range.
Hall of Thanes is 13 to 18, and Shaper's Terrace closes the list at 58 to 60. Legacy Challenges sort dungeon work into 15 to 25, 26 to 45 and 46 to 60. Raids arrive 5 weeks after launch, on 9 December.
Each character can spend up to 16 Legacy Points at launch, from a pool of up to 65. The Well Rested pick raises rested XP gain and the rested cap.
Hardcore joins some time after launch.
Every step of the route is in the leveling guide, and the dungeon guide covers each instance on the way. If you would rather not play the whole climb yourself, book a Mage leveling boost. A human Pro plays your Mage by hand from our own gaming hubs, on a PC dedicated to your account and a unique residential IP in your city, so to the game the climb looks exactly like a family member playing from your home.
In Classic the fastest
Mages leveled on AoE pulls in dungeons. Forever reduces dungeon mob-kill XP, so a Mage levels on the quest route like every other class. That route is about 150 hours of play from 1 to 60.

Orc,
Gnome,
Human,
Troll,
Undead or Skyborne, a
Mage on the quest route picks 1 of these 3 clocks.
Pick your Mage →1 booster plays your Mage 12 hours a day. Free live stream, 24/7, 100% of the playtime.
Mage at 60 before the 9 December raids
A
Mage needs
level 60 to
raid, and the 1st raids open on 9 December 2026:
Hyjal Summit for 20 players and the
Barrow Deeps for 10.
Dual Specialization becomes available at
level 40, so a
Mage at 60 can keep a 2nd
talent set for the other role. Plan to raid the 1st weeks in 1 talent tree. An
Orc Mage that is still leveling that week misses the opening lockouts.
The LFCarry leveling pre-order is $299 when 1 booster plays and $420 when 2 boosters share the hours, then $399 and $599 after the pre-order window. Ask early if you want the
Orc
Mage name held during reservation week.

Official“Arcane Blast: Redesigned. This spell is now a 1.5 second cast, and each time it is cast it grants the casting Mage 15% of their Intellect as additional Spell Damage. This effect also increases the cost of Arcane Blast as before and still stacks to 4 times. However, the effect now lasts 15 seconds from when it is first applied, instead of just until the next spell cast. Mana cost unchanged, but damage done and Spell Damage coefficients both reduced 40%.”
