The board of Schroders and the board of Nuveen have announced that they have agreed the terms of a recommended cash acquisition by Pantheon LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nuveen, to acquire the entire issued share capital of Schroders. Nuveen's and Schroders' businesses are highly complementary and the transaction represents an opportunity to combine their strengths to accelerate growth, better serve clients and create one of the world’s largest global active asset managers. The Combined Group will have nearly $2.5 trillion of assets under management balanced across institutional and wealth channels. The Schroders' brand will be retained and London will serve as the combined Group’s non-US headquarters and largest office. Well that’s a wrap folks! I’m heading home from Shanghai, and its been a packed trip and I’m looking forward to sleeping on the plane! I’m delighted to have been part of the UK business delegation demonstrating Schroders commitment to improve economic ties between the UK and China. It’s been a super productive trip; - we had a great round table session with Lucy Rigby KC MP, senior Chinese regulators and leaders of financial services companies in China and the UK. I was glad that we were joined by the Dame Susan Langley to reinforce the growing ties between China and the City of London Corporation; - while Keir Starmer was busy with the Chinese premier, I participated in a panel at the UK-China Business Council. It was great to be among more than 100 businesses represented at the meeting from both countries; - I signed a strategic memorandum of understanding between Schroders Greencoat LLP, leading battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited and Lochpine Capital to bring energy storage to the UK and Europe; and - it was a real privilege to be part of delegation present for the meeting between Keir Starmer and the Shanghai Party Secretary who was joined by members of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Maybe a highlight was a UK themed evening held last night in Shanghai for business leaders. Great UK brands were on show, including drinks from Diageo, Brompton Bikes, and my daughters’ favourite Jellycat! Behind all the cameras has been the opportunity to meet some new and amazing individuals, and the hospitality shown by our Chinese hosts was amazing. This is a very positive development. Schroders Greencoat LLP has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with leading battery maker CATL and Lochpine Capital on battery energy storage in Europe. It was a great honour to be able to complete the signing here in Beijing as part of my visit with the UK Government's official business delegation. This collaboration is a perfect example of the trade and investment links between the UK and China that we want to highlight on this trip. Accelerating Europe’s energy transition requires the deployment of significant amounts of capital and this deal highlights the role that we play, giving our clients access to this potential. The partnership will leverage the energy transition expertise of Schroders Greencoat, which is one of Europe’s largest dedicated managers in this space and part of Schroders Capital, our US$111 billion private markets business. It is so energising to be back in China, and what an honour to be representing Schroders and our industry as part of the UK Government business delegation. Earlier today I joined Greg Jackson of Octopus Energy at the UK - China Business Council in the Great Hall of the People, on a panel discussing investment. Just one of many opportunities for dialogue about pensions, long-term savings, and other areas where Schroders and UK business really excel. China has been of great strategic importance for Schroders for more than three decades. It is now the world's second-largest consumer market. As they navigate structural changes such as an ageing population, we are able to offer our global pensions expertise to help navigate those changes. Local partnerships here are very important, and we are already established as a key market participant, supported by the success of our partnership with Bank of Communications, which dates back more than 20 years. This has recently deepened via a comprehensive agreement covering innovative products, pensions and fintech. Thanks to the Department for Business and Trade for making this trip such an important opportunity for UK business.
