Edoardo Negroni ha condiviso questo elementoThe first funded initiative to scale up incubation in Europe in early stage biotechEdoardo Negroni ha condiviso questo elemento🚨 BREAKING NEWS: The Novo Nordisk Foundation is funding CardioMetabolic Bridge, a six-year, DKK450m (€60.2m) European incubator network to help university discoveries in obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease become drug development projects. 🤔 Why it matters: Europe produces strong academic science, but many promising discoveries stall before they are validated, financed or developed into medicines. This programme aims to close that gap by giving researchers the funding, lab access, mentoring and drug discovery support needed to make projects attractive to investors, pharma companies or spinout teams. ⏳ Backstory: The initiative builds on the foundation’s broader plan to expand the BioInnovation Institute as a European life sciences innovation platform. In January, the Novo Nordisk Foundation committed up to DKK5.5bn (€736m) to BII for 2026–2035 to help turn more European science into companies, jobs and technologies. 🌍 Big picture: Cardiometabolic disease has become one of pharma’s most important fields, driven by the success of GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy and the growing health burden of obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular complications. CardioMetabolic Bridge gives the foundation’s innovation strategy a sharper therapeutic focus. 🔎 Zoom in: The first hub will open in London in this month, followed by sites in Italy and Germany later in the year. BII will manage the network, drawing on its experience supporting more than 130 companies. The programme is expected to support about 30 academic projects over six years. ✅ Don’t miss the next biotech story from European Biotechnology Magazine Subscribe here: https://lnkd.in/e5KjDRmt

Edoardo Negroni ha diffuso questo postEdoardo Negroni ha diffuso questo postFor many years, #RAS and #MYC shared a common label: "undruggable." Today, the success of RAS-targeted therapies stands as one of the most remarkable achievements in cancer drug discovery. It is a testament to what can happen when scientists refuse to accept that a difficult problem is an impossible one. That is why I found a recent Nature News & Views article particularly inspiring: looking beyond the progress achieved with RAS, the authors point to other challenging targets that may define the next generation of breakthroughs in oncology. Among them is MYC. As someone who has dedicated much of her scientific career to understanding and targeting MYC, I feel deeply honored to see this field recognized as a promising frontier and Peptomyc mentioned among the key players helping to move it forward. For decades, MYC has represented both one of the greatest challenges and one of the greatest opportunities in cancer research. The growing belief that MYC can be effectively targeted gives hope not only to researchers, but most importantly to patients waiting for new therapeutic options. The story of RAS reminds us that "undruggable" is not a scientific law. It is a challenge to be overcome. I am grateful to all the scientists, clinicians, patients, investors, and collaborators who continue to push these boundaries every day. The journey continues. #CancerResearch #Oncology #MYC #RAS #Biotech #DrugDiscovery https://lnkd.in/e2KMZnJALandmark cancer trial shows success against ‘undruggable’ cancer — raising hopes for future treatmentsLandmark cancer trial shows success against ‘undruggable’ cancer — raising hopes for future treatments

Edoardo Negroni ha condiviso questo elementoEurope just got its first standalone, philanthropy-funded institute dedicated exclusively to immunology. We should want more of them. Last week, the "la Caixa" Foundation inaugurated the CaixaResearch Institute in Barcelona. What makes it genuinely different is the architecture of the model: 🔬 Focus — Immunology as a cross-cutting biological lens across oncology, neurodegeneration, infection, and inflammation simultaneously. A deliberate break from the traditional indication-first paradigm. 🏛️ Governance — A fully standalone entity with its own Scientific Council — led by oncologist Josep Tabernero — insulated from short-term grant cycles and built for integrative, multi-disciplinary science. 💰 Funding — €100M construction + €100M operational, co-financed by the European Investment Bank. The patient, independent capital that translational immunology actually needs. The honest question: why is this model so rare in Europe? Biology is integrated. Our research infrastructure largely is not. The same immune mechanisms connecting autoimmunity, tumour evasion, neuroinflammation, and rare diseases are studied in separate silos. Indication-siloed institutes produce indication-siloed science — at the cost of the lateral discoveries that most often become transformative therapies. Checkpoint immunotherapy, CAR-T, cytokine blockade all came from fundamental immune biology questions, not indication-specific ones. More institutes like this across Europe would compound returns in 3 ways: → More discoveries — mechanistic insights seeding therapeutics across multiple disease areas at once. → Integrated skills — immunologists, computational biologists, engineers, and clinicians building the cross-disciplinary fluency that complex diseases demand. → Excellence that retains talent — giving Europe's best researchers a reason to stay, rather than move to La Jolla, Boston, or Basel. CaixaResearch is a proof of concept. Now Europe needs the will to replicate it. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dXQvSgSp #Immunology #EuropeanLifeSciences #BiomedicalResearch #PhilanthropyInScience #TranslationalMedicine #DrugDiscovery #Oncology #Neuroscience #OpenInnovation #EuropeanBiotech #SciencePolicy #BiotechSnap #BioSpace #CaixaResearchInstitute #LifeSciencesThe ”la Caixa” Foundation inaugurates the CaixaResearch Institute, the first research centre specialising in immunology in Spain and Portugal | "la Caixa" FoundationThe ”la Caixa” Foundation inaugurates the CaixaResearch Institute, the first research centre specialising in immunology in Spain and Portugal | "la Caixa" Foundation

Edoardo Negroni ha condiviso questo elementoEurope has the science. The question is whether we have the architecture to scale it. Strong research clusters exist across the continent — immuno-oncology in the Netherlands, rare diseases in France and Italy, genomics in the UK, infectious diseases in Scandinavia. The talent is there. What we are still building is the connective tissue. The European Life Sciences Coalition (ELSC) launch — members managing over €24B in life sciences assets — is a strong signal, but also an honest diagnosis: fragmented markets, nationally bound funds, and a Series B cliff where too many startups turn to the US to survive. Public anchors like KfW, Bpifrance, the EIF, CDP Venture Capital, the British Business Bank, ISIF, Invest-NL, Vækstfonden, CDTI and Tesi are indispensable. Private champions like Novo Holdings, Jeito Capital, Sofinnova and Forbion are proving large-scale European capital is achievable. Yet the architecture remains incomplete. Scale-up investment must operate at a European level. Pan-European capital that follows the best opportunities continent-wide, bridges early- and late-stage investors, and complements EU Inc. reforms will keep our breakthroughs at home. Jeito II at €1B is a bellwether, not a ceiling. Full piece here → https://lnkd.in/dJqf89Yn Honoured to be featured alongside Naveed Siddiqi (Novo Holdings) — a model of patient, mission-aligned capital that builds ecosystem confidence, not just portfolios. Edoardo Negroni ha condiviso questo elementoEuropean biotech has a translation problem. The science is world-class. The funding infrastructure at early stage is not. J.P. Morgan's Q1 2026 data is unambiguous: Seed and Series A deal count is heading toward its lowest level since pre-COVID. Capital is concentrating at Phase II and beyond. First-time financings are vanishing. In Europe, this is not a cycle. It is a structural gap. 66 out of 67 EU biotechs that went public in the last six years did so outside the EU. Southern Europe — despite strong academic pipelines and Spain leading the continent in clinical trials — remains systematically underfunded by private capital. Three interventions are overdue: → Public capital must go earlier. EIC, EIF and national funds should commit through end-of-Phase-II. Private capital will not fill this gap alone. → Venture studios and incubators should become standard TTO output. Not more spinouts on paper — more fundable companies built with discipline from day one. → Selection must be ferocious. More public money does not mean undiscriminating money. Edoardo Negroni ha condiviso questo elementoPfizer Ignite is closing its doors—but others are betting big on early-stage innovation When a tier-one pharma winds down an open innovation program, it signals something worth watching. Pfizer's decision to close Ignite—designed to de-risk early-stage biotech through access to labs, expertise and strategic guidance—removes a valuable non-dilutive pathway for innovators at precisely the moment when early-stage capital is tight. But the ecosystem is responding differently elsewhere. Novo Nordisk Foundation (through NovoSeeds, and NovoHoldings), Eli Lilly and Company, Roche, Amgen, and Chiesi Group, are, among others, expanding their commitment to external innovation ecosystems. They understand something fundamental: most breakthrough science originates outside pharma walls—in academia, research institutes, and startups. Since 2018, more than 70% of new molecular entity revenues have come from externally sourced products, according to many sources, such as for instance McKinsey & Company in a report of June 2025. Here's what makes the difference: pharma innovation systems, with entrepreneurs in residence (EIR) and early-stage VC funds acting as connectors, achieve higher efficacy with academia, startups, and investor networks, to de-risk assets well before Seed and Series A by aligning technology with unmet medical needs and pharma strategic priorities. That pre-investment validation is what early-stage VCs actually need to move forward with conviction. For founders and early-stage investors: pharma players betting on innovation ecosystems aren't just writing cheques. They're validating science ar inception stage, de-risking platforms, and creating pathways to partnership. Closing programs like Ignite isn't cost efficiency. It is stepping back from the very ecosystem that fills tomorrow's pipeline. Innovation is not an option for pharma. It is a matter of existence. https://lnkd.in/dYfTpBpQ #OpenInnovation #EarlyStageVC #BiotechInnovation #PharmaBD #NovoNordisk #CorporateVenture #EntrepreneurInResidence #LifeSciences #DrugDiscovery #StrategicPartnering #InnovationEcosystem #Entrepreneurship #DeRiskingPfizer Ignite, designed to accelerate promising biotech therapies, fizzles outPfizer Ignite, designed to accelerate promising biotech therapies, fizzles out

So excited and gratefull for that indeed!!!! 😍 💫 This is an extraordinary recognition, one I never imagined even existed, let alone that I would be nominated for and become a finalist. I am fully convinced that #KindnessMatters. Kindness is not only compatible with high performance; it is a key enabler of it. Achieving ambitious goals becomes much easier when you are surrounded by team members, partners, and clients who genuinely embody this value. Kindness fosters trust, motivation, engagement, and collaboration, ultimately helping organizations achieve better results. I would like to sincerely thank Tracey Ivanyshyn and Fiona Stevenson for this project and amazing initiative. In my humble opinion, #KindnessAtWork is not a "nice to have"; it is a critical ingredient for sustainable success and meaningful leadership. In addition I would like to thank the ones who have help me in this nomination. I am truly honored by this recognition and grateful to everyone who has been part of my journey. #KindnessInLeadership #Leadership #WorkplaceKindness #LeadershipMatters #PeopleFirst #Gratitude After more than three decades in clinical research and leadership, I remain convinced that people never forget how you make them feel. What happens when companies, research, universities and talent don’t just coexist, but actively connect? According to a recent Harvard Business Review study, places designed around this kind of proximity are emerging as a new model: the Knowledge Campus. MIND Milano Innovation District fits this model: an ecosystem where life sciences, research, business, education and urban life come together, turning proximity into opportunities for collaboration and innovation. For Federated Innovation @MIND, this is exactly where the real value lies. Because innovation rarely happens in isolation. It happens when different skills, perspectives and organizations meet, share challenges and build solutions together. A concept we know well: Collaborate to Compete. 28 February is not just a symbolic date. It is a reminder that science, before becoming innovation, is responsibility. Every rare disease is a quiet story, small numbers, immense lives. Patients often invisible to large economic models, yet central to any ethical one. At Scientifica, investing in complex biomedical research is not a tactical decision. It is a matter of identity. We believe innovation must move toward complexity, not away from it. The most meaningful breakthroughs begin where uncertainty is highest and visibility is lowest. Science is infrastructure. Not storytelling. Not positioning. Our investments in Loto Biotech Platform, RECORNEA, Sense4Med, GenomeUp, and Libera Biotech reflect a structural commitment to innovation in the treatment of disease, precision medicine, translational research, and scalable therapeutic solutions. Because even the most complex medical challenges deserve a strategy and every strategy begins with the decision to invest.

At the 31st International Congress of the Transplantation Society, our portfolio company Tes Pharma S.r.l. will present new preclinical data showing that TESP-0401 improves Delayed Graft Function (DGF) in a model of kidney transplantation. By targeting ACMSD and restoring NAD⁺ biosynthesis, TESP-0401 aims to address mechanisms linked to mitochondrial dysfunction and tubular injury, which play a key role in the progression of renal disease. The findings corroborate the evidence of TESP-0401 having protective effects in Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), while pointing to a broader therapeutic potential in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). With TESP-0401 now being evaluated in first-in-human studies, these results support further investigation of its potential across different renal diseases.
