  • BKC’s last mile is a key bottleneck to mass transit adoption. For most daily commuters entering BKC via the fastest city transit network, the rail system, the last mile often negates the time saved on the main journey. The Aqua Line Metro has materially improved access to BKC, with travel times of ~30 minutes from Aarey and under 20 from Worli. The final 1.5–3 km from the station to office during rush hour, however, can take just as long and walking remains difficult due to still-developing road infrastructure. On the suburban rail side, Bandra and Kurla stations present their own last-mile constraints. At Bandra, peak-hour demand often pushes up auto fares. At Kurla, long queues and inconsistent availability lead to extended waits, with the last stretch frequently taking 30-35 minutes. When the last mile is slow, crowded, or uncertain, commuters default to what feels reliable in the form of private cars or app-based cabs, which eventually compounds to traffic buildup in BKC. Solving BKC’s mobility challenge depends on a last mile designed for efficiency and scale, with alternatives capable of shifting commuter behaviour.

It’s a common misconception that Cityflo runs a large number of buses. I recently read somewhere that we have over ~4000 buses in Mumbai, as compared to the fleet of ~2,800 BEST buses. The reality is we operate 1/10th of that (~400 buses) It’s a credit to our brand visibility, largely driven by the fact that Cityflo buses operate at high frequency during peak hours, and are very visible assets on the road. In sheer volume, BEST serves 2.5 million rides every day. Cityflo serves 18,000. We represent less than 1% of the bus-riding population. For Cityflo, more than the volume, it’s been about intent. Cityflo was built specifically for people who spend 2-3 hours driving to work or shell out ~₹700 on cabs. The goal is to provide an experience comparable to a private car so that shared transit becomes a viable choice for car owners. Our customer surveys also reflect this: - 65% of Cityflo users previously used cars or cabs. - The rest switched from trains, autos, or two-wheelers. - Less than 1% of our ridership transitioned from BEST. By targeting car users, we have collectively reduced 6,660 tonnes of CO2 emissions and saved 7,500KL of fuel in 2025. The BEST and the local train will always be the backbone of the city; Cityflo is a specialized layer designed to reduce congestion by converting car users into bus riders.

  • A hub made for progress in Mumbai moves slower than a bicycle. With a footfall of over 400,000 people daily, BKC has firmly established itself as Mumbai’s new Central Business District. It is home to over 15 million sq. ft. of commercial space, housing the headquarters of Bank of America, ICICI Bank, JP Morgan, and more. Beyond offices, a new era of entertainment and cultural landmarks like NMACC, Jio World Drive, and Jio Gardens has also emerged here. The numbers show just how much this growth shapes the daily commute. Every day, approximately 20,000 cars enter the hub, and at peak hours, the average speed drops to 7 km/hr. The most striking part: 60% of these cars are single occupancy vehicles, yet they account for only 10% of total commuters in the area. BKC stands at an inflection point. How corporates and daily commuters choose to move here next will decide whether this district continues to slow down, or becomes a model for how Mumbai can move faster, through the increased use of shared transit.

Coffee, anyone? You’ll now find it on a Cityflo. One of our most requested features has been the option to buy food while en route or in the bus, for busy mornings when our customers tend to skip breakfast or evenings when traffic can intensify hunger pangs. Launched on International Coffee Day, in partnership with abcoffee, we’re now serving up fresh coffee and snacks onboard, delivered right to your seat on a Cityflo bus. This is a first for daily commutes (and coffee) in Mumbai. Excited to have worked with Abhijeet Anand to solve this; with a brand that shares our goal of making the everyday more convenient. We’re piloting this on select buses at the moment and will scale across the next couple of months. Here’s to making mornings (and evening pick-me-ups) a little smoother.

I'm excited to share about Cityflo's partnership with MMRC to run last mile feeder buses for the newly opened Aqua line metro in Mumbai. I’ve always believed that mass adoption of public transport is necessary for sustainable growth, and it's the very reason we started Cityflo. Solving first and last-mile connectivity is critical for the metros' success and we're proud to be part of the solution. Kudos to the teams for executing this partnership! Turning adversity into opportunity gives me great joy. Monsoons are a difficult time for commute - unexpected delays, impact on cleanliness and one day every couple of weeks where the city comes to a gridlock. A major challenge is that the customer support bandwidth gets stretched, as they do their best to maintain the Cityflo experience. But this provided us with an opportunity - Every Cityflo employee, regardless of their role, spends at least two hours on customer support during this time. It creates much needed backup for the support team, but more importantly, the learnings that each team member takes back from their session, aligns to our core DNA of customer feedback. They are always re-energised and brimming with new ideas to improve our customer experience. And it flows both ways, we've seen our support representatives transition into mission-critical roles across the business. From managing our Control Tower, to leading our Corporate accounts, they carry a deep, empathetic understanding of our customers into every new role. Just like any business, we’ve had our lapses too. We won’t always get everything right. But we can be accountable. That's where our support team remain fierce advocates for our customers where they ask the hard questions internally, they push for change, they follow up till the issue is resolved. In a space that’s evolving fast and getting more automated, efficiency matters. but so does knowing there’s a real human making your voice heard on the other side.

What the suburb of Brampton in Ontario pulled off with buses? Indian cities can, too—and then some. You don’t always need expensive transformative projects to increase public transport adoptability — sometimes it's simply about buses that show up frequently and consistently, everyday. Rushabh Shah breaks down how Brampton cracked the code with a simple, high-impact playbook for buses. Plenty of lessons here for India’s growing cities. Read on below!

In public transport, frequency is king. Brampton, Ontario, a Canadian low-density suburb might have some of the densest transit usage - in North America, where cars have been the dominant force for a century. - 226,000 daily ridership, out of a population of ~700,000 - that’s 1/3rd of the population! - 4x growth from 2004 to 2018 - with relatively low public subsidy, compared to peers. How did they do it? Not by building an expensive metro, but by using the humble bus. It’s a simple playbook - provide predictable, frequent services and the users will come. A 54% increase in Sunday services led to a 177% increase in ridership, simply by providing consistency and frequency. Brampton didn’t build demand-responsive transit - they 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘦𝘥 demand using transit. This could be the model of success for a lot of cities in India - possibly better than expensive metros that take years to build. India needs more buses - low investment, high impact. https://lnkd.in/dAzztZ3f
