As chair, I had the privilege of addressing the Technology Ireland Awards, an annual reminder of the world-class innovation delivered by Ireland’s tech community. Our SMEs continue to bring cutting-edge products and services to global markets, demonstrating resilience and excellence in an increasingly complex environment. A clear message emerged this year: we must simplify how industry engages with government. With more than 1,500 strategies and an ever expanding regulatory landscape, the ability to get things done had become increasingly difficult. As an industry, we are calling for a more streamlined approach that supports growth rather than adding further complexity. We are encouraged by the renewed government focus around AI, including the appointment of an AI minister, Minister Niamh Smyth, the creation of a National AI Office and the work of the new joint committee. However, the most urgent issue now is skills. AI capability must become a core competency across workforces, not just a specialist niche. Ireland’s tech sector has shown remarkable resilience and leadership to date. Congratulations to all the winners on the evening, whose achievements highlight the strength of our sector. With clearer structures, faster decision-making and coordinated action on skills and competitiveness, Ireland can continue to lead in the next wave of global innovation.
