Tallinna Ettevõtlusinkubaator / Tallinn Business Incubator
1yAhmed El Shenawy reposted this🏁 Last weekend marked the final training session of the Game Development Pre-Incubation Programme at Tallinn Business Incubator! Over the past 1.5 months, participants learned about the essentials of game development — from game design, market analysis, and marketing, to toolkits, art styles, project management, legal topics, and funding. A huge shoutout to our amazing trainers: Jordan Luke Morris, Ahmed El Shenawy, Julia Sereda, Jelizaveta Lazonen, Karl Kontus and Ott Madis Ozolit 👏 And special thanks to GameDev Estonia for teaming up with us to bring this programme to life! 🔜 Up next: participants will pitch their game ideas and launch their very own Steam store pages during the final event — just one month to go! Stay tuned 🚀 -
Ahmed El Shenawy shared thisLast week I was invited by Tallinna Ettevõtlusinkubaator / Tallinn Business Incubator to share my knowledge and experience with those who are looking to start their careers, games, and studios in Estonia. I shared concepts about project management in general and in games more specifically, and did a quick example of one little game idea with Julia Sereda.. And we wrote up a rather good plan that who knows, perhaps we might actually do it?? 💡😎 This is the first attempt of hopefully many more to come in the future, to support the local creatives and game industry in Estonia. I'm lucky and appreciative to be part of that. Extra special thanks to Nele Plutus for making it happen! 👏👏

Ahmed El Shenawy shared thisAnd that's a wrap for this year's Bootcamp and GameCamp! Was a great joy and a privilege as always. See you next time! Maybe one day I'll try my luck as a participant 😁Ahmed El Shenawy shared thisOn Sunday, we held the final part of TalTech GameCamp 2025 - the Game Jam! 🎮 I've had some time to reflect on how it went and got the final data on me. During the Game Jam, 197 people participated and made 55 games. To top it off, we had over 270 participants in the BootCamp, making the event, yet again, Estonia's largest game development event. We had many great submissions, and for the first time, we awarded all the categories people voted in. 👏 Thank you to all of our amazing sponsors - TalTech School of IT, TalTech Student Council of the School of IT (ITÜK), Mustamäe District Administration, Tallinna Ettevõtlusinkubaator / Tallinn Business Incubator and GameDev Estonia for giving unique opportunities to the winners; CRITICAL REFLEX, Maru VR, Placeholder Gameworks, CM Games for helping us spread the good word of Estonian games; Paulig Group, Kadarbiku, Peetri Pizza and Red Bull for keeping our participants full and energized; JOIK OÜ, MyFitness, ingame and Elamusgolf for giving awesome prizes. I also want to thank Ahmed El Shenawy, Alisa B., Antonio Scacchetti, Artur Bassov, Erik Kesa, Helena R., Ismail Amer, Jose Monagas, Juha Huhtakallio, Kevin Otto Koit, Lev Samin, Martin Turnpuu, Mikhail Fiadotau, Mikk Luige, Nicola Piovesan, Ralf Brait Lehepuu, Ramil Roosileht, Suhaib Rehman Khan, Taavi Pahk, Valeria P. and Villem Rootalu for being speakers and mentors - without them, GameCamp would not be as big and awesome as it is. 🫶 🏆 Congratulations to Sergei Dragunov and the team "MK ultra games" for winning GameCamp 2025! Your game "Bat in White" stood out for its art, fitting this year's theme "Opposites" amazingly with the light and shadow, gameplay is simple yet charming! If any of you want to play it, here's the link: https://lnkd.in/dRQyri3E That said, I have to admit we could have done better. Yes, it is fantastic that we could facilitate the awesome developers, artists, designers, musicians, and more, and allow them to create awesome games. Our homemade website hosting the event was not up to snuff, and people have been vocal about it. From having the wrong theme announced to the category awards given out unfairly by the system, we have acknowledged the issues within the source code and have addressed them within the community. We can not change the past, but we can change the future - we will begin rewriting the platform from scratch. We will make it stable, easy to use, and have more features for all participants. It might take time, but it is for the better good of GameCamp and its upcoming editions.💡 A big thank you to everyone for your amazing support and participation! Together, we will keep learning, growing, and getting even better. 🚀 I'm Alacris Devs, and this is TalTech GameCamp 2025! See you next year! 🎮❤️ #taltechgamecamp #gamedevestonia

Ahmed El Shenawy shared thisGame dev BootCamp 2025 just happened! Last year I discussed tips on how to manage yourself in a game jam. This time I went into concepts and highlights of elements that affect difficulty and what makes a challenge easy, hard, or just utterly frustrating to the player. This is one talk that can honestly go on for days, so I tried to keep it short and sweet. If you weren't there, or would like to rewatch it, then you can do right over here: https://lnkd.in/dMmNkRP9 Big thanks and congratulations to Alacris Devs and the rest of the TalTech GameCamp team for making it happen again! 👏🎉Ahmed El Shenawy shared thisYesterday, we hosted the first part of TalTech GameCamp 2025 – the BootCamp! 🎉 Held at Mektory, the event combined lectures and workshops in a hybrid format, allowing nearly 90 participants to engage, with over 180 following the 9-hour live stream. Our incredible mentors - Mikhail Fiadotau, Ahmed El Shenawy, Martin Turnpuu, Juha Huhtakallio, Ramil Roosileht, Suhaib Rehman Khan, and Taavi Pahk - covered everything from game jam strategies, finding the core of your game, Unreal Engine, Godot, and more. A massive thank you to our sponsors, Paulig and Red Bull, for helping participants stay energized with coffee and energy drinks! 🤩 For those who missed it or want to revisit the sessions, we’ll upload the lectures and slides to our Discord server: https://lnkd.in/drJf4gC5. With BootCamp wrapped up, we can’t wait to see what amazing games will be created during the upcoming Game Jam. See you all at GameCamp! 🎮❤️ 📸 Arthur Sepp

Ahmed El Shenawy shared thisAwesome event and kudos to everybody who worked on, helped out, participated, and just gave moral support! Thank you for having me and for the opportunity to be part of TalTech's first official game jam and most definitely not the last!Ahmed El Shenawy shared thisYesterday marked the end of TalTech GameCamp 2024, and here's the recap! TalTech GameCamp, an educational bootcamp/game jam event hosted in TalTech, had over 120 participants online and onsite from last Friday to Sunday, with 28 teams creating their submissions for the jam's theme "Into the Unknown" - this means 28 different games after 48 hours of jamming. Onsite, we had 90 team members, including 15 mentors, 11 organizers, and one goal - to make the best game jam possible in Estonia. Our team worked day and night to accommodate jammers at the TalTech Innovation and Business Centre Mektory, and mentors were constantly helping teams with their questions. Sponsors, like Dynami:t and Pizzakiosk Tehnopol, provided everyone with food and a surplus of energy drinks to keep the buzz going. Many game development companies, like CM Games, Placeholder Gameworks, Mister Morris Games, and tulevik.EU, handed out merch and game keys to give out and awarded participants. TalTech School of IT, TalTech Student Council of the School of IT (ITÜK), Nortal, and GameDev Estonia were our biggest sponsors and helped us grow our budget for the event. This event is the most notable and memorable experience I've ever had as a game developer, and without everyone I've mentioned, this wouldn't have been possible. Thank you to our sponsors who made it all possible, believed in us at our most stressful moments, and praised us at our best. Special thanks to Edvard Dumansky, Rasmus S., Aleksei Nehoroshkin, Antonio Scacchetti, Artur Bassov, Heiti Kender, Jaagup Irve, Nicola Piovesan, Ahmed El Shenawy, Märten Rattasepp, Alisa B., Paul - Peeter Maasoo, Mikhail Fiadotau, Florian Becquereau, Mikk Luige, Ott Madis Ozolit, Valeria P., Villem Rootalu, Andrejs Rusinovskis, Arthur Sepp, all of the students who helped organize, and many more for giving us your collective knowledge, sharing it with everyone, and making the sleepless nights worth it. Congrats to Lev Yakovlev, Leonid Maznitsa, Liisa Leit, Taavi Rannu, and Cihat Kizilkaya for winning the jam and the Mentor's Favorite award! From the art style to the story your game "Into The Bus" told, it was fun to play through your game, even when I failed to reach the "Koopa peatus"! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this event, even if you only participated. You showed that making games, even without sleep or sanity, is fun. I hope you all gained valuable knowledge and will use it to make even more awesome games in the future. It was an honor and a privilege to be the face of the first GameCamp, and if all goes well, this won't be the last GameCamp the world sees. I'm Alacris Devs, and this is TalTech GameCamp 2024! See you next year! 🎮 ❤️ #taltechgamecamp #gamedevestonia

Aitäh žürii, et märkate olulist disaini! Ja aitäh Estonian Ministry of Finance / Rahandusministeerium koostöö eest ja Estonian Academy of Arts projekti meieni kunagi ammu toomast! Küll on aega mõni kuld noppida hilisemas karjääris (kuigi Noore Püssi kategooriast kasvan varsti välja, seal pingutan veel ainult ühe korra). Ahmed El Shenawy liked thisPilot Pips project kicked off with 'From Vibe Coder to Entrepreneur' - our first event, and it was a great start. 🎉" Event brought together three great perspectives on AI and vibe coding: Indrek Seppo on AI as a thinking partner for business ideas, Kei Olbrei leading the hands-on coding workshop, and Krister Viirsaar giving a developer's perspective and thoughts on where things are headed. It was a day full of great energy: new acquaintances, a lot of hands-on practice, and plenty of perspective on how to approach AI and what's coming next. Big thanks to Helen Arme, who carried a lot of the organisational work, also Margaret Aidla and Sandra Sirp. The project aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial and technical skills of young people under 25 in Estonia, Latvia and Sweden. As the project’s first public event, we hosted “From Vibe Coder to Entrepreneur” – an inspirational and hands-on day open to everyone interested in vibe coding and the possibilities of AI. The day brought together three different perspectives: 💡 Indrek Seppo explored how AI can be used not just to get answers, but as a thinking partner for developing and refining business ideas. 💻 Kei Olbrei led the hands-on vibe coding workshop, where participants could turn their own ideas and problems into working prototypes. 🔐 Krister Viirsaar looked at the other side of rapid AI-assisted development – data protection, security and product architecture, and the risks that can arise when “it works” becomes the end goal. Participant feedback showed how powerful the combination of AI and hands-on experimentation can be. Many participants said that vibe coding made building something themselves feel much more accessible than expected and gave them the confidence to experiment with new tools. The opportunity to dedicate a full day to their own idea and receive expert feedback was also highly valued. At the same time, an important lesson was that a working prototype is only the beginning. A good solution still needs a clear problem, a defined user and a critical look at what happens under the hood. The event marked the beginning of a journey that continues with the Pilot Pips programme starting in November. The event was organized by the Pilot Pips project managers Nele Plutus and Helen Arme with the help of Sandra Sirp. Pilot Pips is co-funded by the Interreg Central Baltic Programme and the European Union. -

In the 13th part of our tutorial series on implementing a software renderer in Odin with raylib, we're adding support for multiple lights with different colors. https://lnkd.in/d4_F6htR This is the last but one part. In the final part, we're going to introduce the concept of a model, to pack together mesh and texture to be able to have more than one of them in the scene. #programming #coding #odin #odinglang #c #raylib #renderer #phong

On November 13, I’ll be hosting a roundtable at GDCy - GameDev Cyprus Executive Lounge called “Are We Saving Development Time With AI — Or Just Making More Game?” When I ask studios about their experience with AI in marketing, management, finance, and other more general areas, the answers are already fairly similar. Common patterns are starting to emerge. But when the conversation moves to game development itself, there still isn’t a clear overall picture. And I understand why. - First, commercial game development cycles are long. We simply haven’t gone through enough full development cycles with AI yet to establish the most effective practices, tools, and approaches. - Second, game development — even at larger studios — is not enterprise software development or SaaS. Very often, you’re choosing between options you’ll probably regret later anyway, then supporting that choice with a few more workarounds. That also means other studios’ AI experience does not always transfer well to your own project. Every team has its own pipelines, constraints, and compromises. So the main question I want to discuss is: How do we use AI in game development in a way that actually moves a game closer to a successful release, rather than simply letting us produce more tasks and more content? If you’re going to GDCy Executive Lounge, come join the discussion. I’m especially interested in hearing from people who already use AI directly in development: where did it genuinely shorten the path to release, and where did it simply create more work?
