Ganesh Hegde hat dies repostetGanesh Hegde hat dies repostetI'm running the London Marathon. I'm running it in memory of Tim Corke, our COO at Token.io, who passed away suddenly earlier this year. Tim was one of those people who made everything around him work better quietly, without fanfare. Many great things have already been said about him, I now want to do something in his memory, building on the whole team effort recently at the Standard Chartered Great City Race. I'm raising money for Sue Ryder's Leckhampton Court Hospice. Sue Ryder does extraordinary work providing end-of-life care across the UK, and Leckhampton was the hospice Tim supported personally, and I'm delighted to do my small bit. As I've started training, I have thought that the marathon is a lot like Tim. Everyone sees the 26.2 miles on the day. Nobody sees the months of early mornings, the boring repetition, the unglamorous work that makes the thing possible. Tim operated like that. The preparation was the point. The hard yards happened long before anyone was watching. Now, I should be transparent about something. I am 41 years old and at this point essentially constructed from the same material as an overdunked biscuit. There is a very real possibility that something structural gives way in training or on the day. But I will get round. Crawling counts. (I've checked.) He ran the Cheltenham Half Marathon to raise funds and awareness for Sue Ryder, sharing: "You really don't know you need their help until you are deep into some of the worst things you will ever experience and, at that point, you are SO glad they exist." Ganesh Hegde hat dies repostetGanesh Hegde hat dies repostetWe continue to mourn the loss of our Chief Operating Officer and friend, Tim Corke, and to hold his family, friends, and all who knew him in our thoughts. With the consent of Tim’s family, we are proud to share that Tim was an organ donor and, through this final act of generosity, he has impacted at least six lives. This says so much about who Tim was: someone who cared deeply about others and made a lasting difference, both in his work and far beyond it. We are lucky to have called him our colleague and friend. Tim’s family and friends take comfort knowing that part of Tim lives on. We hope this may encourage others to take a moment to consider organ donation and the legacy it can create. Some chased PBs, others soaked up the atmosphere, all showing what teamwork at Token.io is about. Proud to see our teams taking on new challenges in every city we call home. And PSR fixes more of the payment plumbing than people may realise, from performance and parity, to friction, control and consistency. New payment schemes like #giroAPI (which Token.io was the first TPP admitted to) are already putting the pieces together to ensure Pay by Bank can do even for merchants and consumers. Ganesh Hegde gefällt dasA bank left managed Kubernetes and ran it themselves. Would they tell you to do the same? In one word, no Saxo Bank told this story at Platform Engineering Day EU, and one of the speakers is a fellow Golden Kubestronaut, so I paid close attention They moved off cloud-managed Kubernetes onto their own data centers. VMware, Cluster API, GitOps. The drivers were compliance, because a bank needs a documented exit from any single cloud, then reliability, and the real kicker, cost. They would do it again. Asked whether they would recommend it to everyone, the answer was a flat no Here is what it costs you. On-prem breaks assumptions the cloud hides. Asymmetric routing killed their stateful firewalls on stretched clusters. External DNS was painful enough that they forked it to patch upstream. Capacity planning is back on you, with no new node one API call away Three years after the proof of concept, the migration is around 20% done. And the honest part: if they started today, they would drop Flatcar and run Talos I run Talos at home, and I think they are right on that call. Leaving managed Kubernetes is a real option, but is not a shortcut, and it is not for most of the teams
