In March, the European Commission unveiled its Industrial Accelerator Act, sending a clear message: the continent’s economic future hinges on the strength of its #industrial base. For Ayla Majid, Founder and CEO at Planetive, the stakes are difficult to overstate. "Government and industry leaders must immediately mobilize the capital and collaboration needed to build resilient #energy systems that can power enduring #growth – or witness their competitors pull decisively ahead." https://lnkd.in/eJKTxMpi

Everyone talks about critical #thinking. Few define what it actually means in today’s #classrooms. Conrad Hughes argues that in an AI-driven, algorithm-shaped world, the #skill goes far beyond analysis. It includes understanding how information is produced, amplified and sometimes distorted. At his International School of Los Angeles (LYCEE INTERNATIONAL DE LOS ANGELES), that thinking is being translated into a dedicated curriculum. Here is what that looks like: https://lnkd.in/eqiQQYeg

#Nature conservation is chronically underfunded, with a global biodiversity finance gap of up to $700 billion a year. New models such as #wildlife credits and performance-based payments seek to align economic incentives with #conservation outcomes, but more action is needed. Jane Callesen of Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark tells how a project in Rwanda is, somewhat unconventionally, addressing the #biodiversity finance gap by giving gorillas digital wallets in order to reward conservation efforts. https://lnkd.in/eupKabgd

Most companies now recognize that the majority of their #emissions lie outside their direct control, embedded within supply chains, transport and product lifecycles. Focus is now shifting from measuring Scope 3 emissions to delivering real reductions in the value chain. Temidayo Akenroye, PhD, University of Missouri-Saint Louis and Dr Hushneara Begum, Centre for Sustainability, explore how organizations are identifying emissions “hotspots,” improving supplier data and embedding carbon performance into procurement decisions. It also highlights the growing role of collaboration across industries to standardize reporting and scale solutions that deliver measurable impact. These practical approaches show how supply chains can move from reporting emissions to driving meaningful #climate action and more resilient #supply chain systems. https://lnkd.in/edUVdaSs

In the next 5 years, US data centres could be consuming a tenth of the country's total electricity output. US start-up Exowatt has built an energy system for #datacentres that stores the sun’s energy as heat, ready to be converted into electricity as and when needed - up to 24 hours a day. Exowatt is a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, joining a community of start-ups from across the planet who are developing cutting-edge technologies to tackle some of the planet’s biggest challenges. Cutting methane emissions is one of the most effective ways to curb global warming - but most methane leaks go unnoticed. Traditional sensors can tell you there’s a leak nearby, but that’s about it. QLM’s quantum lidar cameras represent a vast step-up in capability. They can detect and measure methane emissions with pinpoint accuracy and at distances of up to 200 metres, giving industries a vital tool for tackling leaks. QLM Technology is a partner of the World Economic Forum’s Quantum Application Hub, a platform that aims to shape a scalable and inclusive quantum ecosystem. Learn more: https://ow.ly/oAs750YT5NT

Up to 30% of global greenhouse gas #emissions result from preventable inefficiencies in poorly maintained infrastructure. From leaking pipelines to inefficient buildings, ‘waste emissions’ cost the global economy up to $3 trillion a year. Yet nearly a third of required emissions reductions are already within reach today, driven not by new technologies but by better maintenance, monitoring and optimisation of existing systems. Closing this maintenance gap could unlock some of the fastest gains in the transition to net zero. Which solution should be prioritized first?
