BMW is piloting AI‑powered humanoid robots at its Leipzig plant, bringing “physical AI” onto European production lines to take on repetitive, ergonomically demanding tasks in car and battery manufacturing alongside human workers. As humanoids move from demos into real industrial deployments like this, IEC standards will be vital for guiding how these systems are designed, tested, and integrated into everyday workplaces. 🔗 AI News: “BMW brings humanoid robots to its European manufacturing plant in Leipzig” – https://lnkd.in/en2QR8AN 🔗 IEC e‑tech: https://lnkd.in/egGC6r7n #FridayGadget #AI #WeekendRead

IEC everywhere for a safer and more efficient world
Info
The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) brings together 170 countries, and more than 20,000 experts cooperate on the global IEC platform to ensure that products work everywhere safely with each other. The IEC is the world's leading organization that prepares and publishes globally relevant International Standards for the whole energy chain, including all electrical, electronic and related technologies, devices and systems. The IEC also supports all forms of conformity assessment and administers four Conformity Assessment Systems that certify that components, equipment and systems used in homes, offices, healthcare facilities, public spaces, transportation, manufacturing, explosive environments and energy generation conform to them. IEC work covers a vast range of technologies: power generation (including all renewable energy sources), transmission, distribution, Smart Grid, batteries, home appliances, office and medical equipment, all public and private transportation, semiconductors, fibre optics, nanotechnology, multimedia, information technology, and more. It also addresses safety, EMC, performance and the environment.

Understanding agentic AI: https://lnkd.in/etjE8BN2 Just when we were getting used to generative AI, a new concept is emerging: agentic AI. There’s an old saying that just when you think you have all the answers, someone comes along and changes the questions. That’s exactly what’s happening with artificial intelligence today. Agentic AI introduces new capabilities and new challenges. The good news is that standards can help guide safe and reliable development. #IECEmergingTech #Innovation #EmergingTech #AI #AgenticAI

Just a few months after Australia introduced a social media ban on under 16s, a number of other countries are planning on following suit. So how do platforms actually verify age and at what cost? We caught up with Tony Allen, Executive Director of the Age Check Certification Scheme and an IEC/ISO expert, to explore how age verification works and the risks involved. 👉 Read more https://lnkd.in/eSQ_t-7D Age checks can protect children but also raise privacy concerns and create lasting digital footprints. There is no one size fits all solution. That is why experts at the IEC and International Organization for Standardization are working to balance safety with user trust. #OnlineSafety #Privacy #CyberSecurity #DataProtection #DigitalTrust #IECEmergingTech

Companies like Apple are putting explicit limits around AI agents so they can automate useful tasks while keeping tight control over what those agents can access, decide and do, especially in higher‑risk contexts. As more “agentic” systems move from chat to action, the governance, scope and accountability questions become increasingly important for organisations that want autonomy and safety to develop in parallel. 🔗 AI News: “Why companies like Apple are building AI agents with limits” – https://lnkd.in/ge8PbrWt 🔗 IEC e‑tech: https://lnkd.in/etjE8BN2 #AI #WeekendRead
