Many incidents occur when caregivers are working alone — including situations in which they can no longer call for help. In psychiatric care settings, when a caregiver is attacked or incapacitated, a rapid response is critical. With Ascom’s Staff Safety solution, automatic man-down detection can trigger an alert. Responders instantly receive the alert and the caregiver’s location to coordinate assistance without delay. 👇 A practical example of how the solution works for lone caregivers. In busy NICU environments, time is one of the most important resources. At Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, hourly manual documentation of ventilator data consumes valuable nursing time. Ascom’s Medical Device Integration solution automatically captures data and transfers it to the patient record—eliminating the need for manual documentation. This saves an average of 14.4 minutes per patient per day. Read the evidence case study: https://lnkd.in/d8mbbGcb #NursingTime #NeonatalCare #PatientRecord #NICU #MedicalDeviceIntegration

Working in long-term psychiatric support requires being prepared for unpredictable situations. In Esbjerg Municipality's residential care facilities in Denmark, employees often work alone, either inside soundproof homes or outdoors among residents. Balancing residents' privacy with staff safety requires smart technology and clear workflows. For Safety Manager Camilla Haldrup Hauschildt, employee safety is non-negotiable: "Safety is something on which we simply do not compromise. The more confident you feel, the better you perform your social work because you are not on alert all the time." To support communication and employee protection, Esbjerg Kommune implemented the Ascom Myco 4 smartphone, enabling staff to call for assistance with a single press of the alarm button. The data is in: Ascom’s clinical alarm solution dramatically reduces noise levels and non-actionable alerts at an ICU with single-patient rooms. The shift to ICUs with single-patient rooms poses challenges. One of them is the risk of exposing ICU patients to high levels of alarm-related noise, which can negatively impact recovery and extend ICU stays. But advanced filtering and alarm distribution solutions go a long way towards reducing the number of alerts reaching ICU nurses, and significantly reducing alarm-related noise in patients’ rooms. Keeping employees safe and responding quickly to incidents are key priorities in large industrial environments. At BASF’s production site in Pontecchio Marconi (Italy), a safety project focused on improving communication across the chemical plant, helping identify potential critical situations and strengthening risk prevention and staff safety. Patients running off is a known risk in psychiatric and long-term care environments. When a hospitalized patient leaves a ward unexpectedly, caregivers need a safe way to follow, while colleagues are immediately informed and able to provide assistance. With Ascom’s Staff Safety solution, caregivers can trigger an alert while on the move, enabling responders to receive real-time location information and coordinate support across the facility. 👇 A practical example of how the ‘follow me’ feature works when a patient runs off. How smart does a smartphone have to be to boost occupancy rates? Our robust yet brainy Myco 4 Android Enterprise Recommended smartphone ensures critical data flows between people, processes and equipment. A lift won’t open? An alert goes directly to the relevant worker’s Myco 4. A staff member has collapsed in a remote cellar area? An automatic ‘man-down’ alarm goes to the appropriate colleagues and rescue services. An inebriated guest is threatening reception staff? A single button push summons help. Of course, we understand that not all hotels need the full array of Myco 4 features. That’s why the Myco 4 Wi-Fi and 5G Wi-Fi are also available in a ‘Slim’ variant. But whichever variant you opt for, you always get the smooth, fast performance and long-device life that come from a rugged, water- and dust-resistant body to the IP68 standard. The SASICU research project has reached an important milestone. Together with Erasmus MC, Dräger and B. Braun Group, the first EU-based Silent ICU setup was tested at Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, and medical staff were trained to work in a Silent ICU patient room. Great to see the project teams and clinical staff working together on site to support this next phase of the research. This enables the start of the next research phase and the collection of data in Silent ICU rooms versus standard alarm-heavy ICU environments. First EU-based Silent ICU setup & training ✅ Last week, we took an important step in the Smart and Silent ICU (SASICU) research project in the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam in the Netherlands. We tested the technical setup of our innovative Silent Care Package and trained medical staff to work in a Silent ICU patient room. This enables: - The start of the next research phase, collecting data in silent ICU rooms versus ‘standard’ alarm-heavy ICU environments - Initial adoption of Silent ICU workflows, with medical staff beginning to adjust their work processes toward this approach, even beyond the research setting, to explore its potential for improving the healing environment ISO/IEEE 11073 SDC protocol as enabler for Silent ICU For the first time, we can integrate medical devices from multiple manufacturers to establish the Silent ICU. This is only possible through the newly developed open standard ISO/IEEE 11073 SDC that enables devices to communicate back and forth (bidirectional) with the alarm distribution. Key insights: - Technically, the full chain of connected devices from Dräger (monitoring and ventilator) and B.Braun (infusion pumps) successfully distributes alarms to the Ascom dashboard and handhelds, allowing alarm sounds to be silenced in the patient room - In life critical situations (i.e. asystole, ventilator disconnection) high-priority alarms from ventilators will continue to sound locally in the patient room to safeguard patient safety - Medical staff provided valuable practical feedback related to safe implementation of this innovative solution and expressed desire in working with the Silent ICU solution as a standard approach within the department Next steps that take place in the coming months: - Training for the rest of the ICU department - Expansion of the technical setup to more patient rooms - Start of inclusion of patients in the Silent ICU rooms We will share updates as the research progresses. SASICU research goal and background With peaks of up to 127.9 dBA, ICUs are significantly louder than the WHO recommendation of 35 dB. Alarm noise could contribute to patient delirium, which is associated with longer lengths of stay, increased readmission rates, cognitive and functional impairment, as well as increased mortality. Together with research partners #Draeger, #Ascom, #BBraun, #ErasmusMC, we are investigating how a silent patient room with distributed alarms systems - for eliminating alarms at the patient bedside - may help reduce stress and potentially improve patient outcomes. Manual documentation can introduce risk where none should exist. In neonatal care, even small transcription errors in ventilator data can impact clinical decisions and patient safety. At Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Ascom’s Medical Device Integration solution significantly reduced these risks, enabling automated data transfer and removing the need for manual data entry. Approximately 3.86 million potential error points have been eliminated annually.
