Hear Me Out: Could The Dodge Hornet Have Been Saved If It Was A Chrysler?

The Dodge Hornet has died prematurely after just two years on the market and after suffering torrid sales figures. The final nail in the coffin was US-imposed tariffs combined with its Italy-only production location, but the Hornet never really hit its stride as a Dodge. So I'm wondering, would it have sold better if it were a Chrysler? Hear me out. Dodge built its brand identiy around the Brotherhood of Muscle, so when it decided a compact crossover with a hybrid powertrain was its next money-maker, fans were not happy. Dodge sells muscle cars and power-SUVs like the Durango, after all. But Chrysler? Chrysler is desperate for new models, and the Hornet could've been the mainstream model it needed alongside the only model it currently sells, a minivan. As a Chrysler, the price could've been higher, which would've given Chrysler a buffer to absorb the impact of tariffs. Alfa Romeo wouldn't have been happy, but it's on life support in the USA, anyway, and the Tonale isn't a volume seller

What "insignificant" movie car deserved to see more action?

Whether it's the bummer ending James Bond's BMW Z8 met in The World Is Not Enough or the one-stunt-wasn't-enough Ford Taurus "Family Truckster" from Christmas Vacation, some cars should have had a bigger role in their movies. For example, I just watched the incredibly campy, borderline-terrible, but ultimately fun 2000 remake of Charlie's Angels last night, and I've had Dylan's 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS convertible stuck in my head since then. The movie car was reportedly an actual "Z11" Indy 500 pace car replica, and that relative rarity makes it easier to understand why Dylan's behind-the-wheel action sequences were limited to a few smoky burnouts, rather than any all-out car chases. Still, I wish the Dover White and Hugger Orange Camaro had gotten a little more screentime.

What vehicle segment have you given up caring about?

I can't be the only one who's experienced this. I used to love seeing new supercars and hypercars, but the older I get, the less I seem to care about them. Maybe it's just that there have been too many of that revealed that they've lost their sparkle, or perhaps it's that they all try to one-up each other with wild styling and insane performance promises that seem disingenuous, but I'm very seldom excited by a new supercar. Am I the only one? Or is there a segment that once excited you that you now feel completely apathetic about?

What's the perfect amount of horsepower for a fun daily driver and weekend toy?

They say too much is never enough, but no one really needs 1,000 hp. I believe there's too many cars with four-digit power figures now, anyway. But if 1,000 hp is too much, then what's the right amount? Is it 200 hp like a Honda Civic Si? Or maybe 500 hp is the butter zone, as proven by the Porsche 911 GT3? I'm leaning towards a range of 300-500, depending on factors like weight, but I want to know what you think.

Genesis and Toyota are creating sports cars to become GT3 racers: which would you choose?

In the span of just a couple of months, two automakers have revealed completely new roadgoing sports cars with the express purpose of using them to create GT3 race cars. Genesis came first with its Magma GT, and Toyota followed it with the GR GT. Toyota seems to be a little farther along in development, as it also revealed the actual race car. Both cars are interesting in that they show the sports car racing class is becoming more popular and attracting both drivers and spectators. Also interesting is how different they are in principle. The Genesis is going to be a mid-engine sports car, following the path of many European sports cars and even the Chevy Corvette. The Toyota is following the traditional GT route with a front engine, though one that's positioned as close to the middle of the car as possible based on that dash-to-axle ratio. We're curious, which one would you pick?

Do You Care About Passenger-Side Infotainment Screens?

Automakers seem to be reaching the limits of just how big they can make the main infotainment screens in their cars. So the obvious next frontier for them has been additional screens, particularly ones for the passenger. We've seen them crop up in all sorts of vehicles, from high-end Jeeps to Audis. We're not necessarily all on the same page whether they're actually useful, though. Anytime I've been sitting in the passenger seat, I've never felt much desire to mess with the screen in front of me. Why would I dig around on that for media and entertainment when I already have all that set up in my phone? I can also hold my phone in whatever position is comfortable to me, rather than the fixed position of a passenger-side screen. And if I need to adjust anything with the car's settings, well, it's not like it's hard to use the center screen. What do you all think?

What's On Your Road Trip Playlist?

It's that time of year when lots of us hit the road to gather with friends and family for holiday celebrations. Whether you're driving 30 minutes across town, three hours across the state, or three days across the country, every trip in the car needs a decent playlist. For me, a good blend of disco, Motown, glam metal, and pop queens keep me going when I get a little road-weary – everything from Van Halen and the Temptations to Diana Ross and Carly Rae Jepsen. What about you? What's your favorite song when you're putting pavement behind you?

Discussion: What would you buy for $42,000 instead of the 2026 Honda Prelude?

Pricing is out for the 2026 Honda Prelude. With an MSRP of $42,000, there are a lot of other coupes you could buy for a similar price, including some vastly more powerful sports cars. So with a budget of $42k, what would you buy instead?

How much do you think is a fair price for the 2026 Honda Prelude?

We've had an early drive of the new 2026 Honda Prelude and come away impressed. But there are still questions, like how much will it cost? While we wait for official pricing from Honda, we're interested to find out how much you think is a fair price for the new Prelude. Consider that the Civic Type R costs in the region of $45,000, while a Civic Si starts at $31,000.

What old car deserves the restomod treatment?

Restomods are a big deal, but we tend to see the same cars being restomodded all the time, mainly Porsche 911s and Land Rover Defenders. But what other cars deserve a new lease on life? My money goes to the Buick GNX, but what other cars deserve a modern revival?

Do You Care About AM Radio In Cars?

We recently reported on an update to legislation requiring car companies to keep AM radio in cars. It left me wondering, do any of you still listen to AM radio? Even if you don't, is it something you want to have, just in case? As for me, I think I could probably go without it. I really never listen to it. Though I admittedly would have some concerns since AM radio is still a key component to emergency broadcasts, especially related to extreme weather.

Can you actually save $10,000 on a new car?

A provision in the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) allows taxpayers to deduct up to $10,000 in interest paid on interest towards a loan for a new vehicle purchase. This sounds like a great deal, especially as the $7,500 EV credit just expired. Unfortunately, the term "up to" is doing some heavy lifting, and you would need to finance around $167,000 to accrue that much interest. The legislation sets income caps — $100,000 for single filers and $200,000 for joint filers — so it's unlikely that anyone will actually benefit from the full amount. Instead, most people will likely save around $500 to $600 per year. Is that enough to make you consider buying a new car?

What seemingly silly detail is a must-have for you when buying a car?

Buying a car means ticking boxes for big must-haves like safety, efficiency, price, and more. But what seemingly insignificant box do you personally need ticked? For me, a car without a rear windscreen wiper is a no-n, as is a car that has flat, unsculpted seats. What's your pet peeve that would make you not buy a car?
