David Kendall reposted thisFourteen years ago, I stepped into work that would change my life — and give hope to families searching for their loved ones. I’ve stood beside parents whose worlds shattered in an instant. I’ve felt the urgency of those first hours, and the weight when days, weeks, and years pass with no answers. And I’ve answered the same question countless times: “Why wasn’t an Amber Alert issued?” The truth is, Amber Alerts save lives — but they can only be used when strict criteria are met. When they aren’t, it doesn’t mean we can’t act. It means we need other tools. That’s why we built Canada’s Secondary Alerting System — the MCSC Child Search Network. Through our MCSC rescu app, a national network of digital volunteers can mobilize within minutes when a child is missing and needs urgent community help, even if Amber Alert criteria isn't met. It’s not just technology. It’s people. It’s you. Every set of eyes matters. Every person who cares matters. Every step toward safety matters. If you’ve ever wondered how you can help — this is your moment. 📲 Register for MCSC rescu today — it’s free, geo-targeted, and empowers communities to take action: rescu.mcsc.ca 📩 Email us at info@mcsc.ca to involve your business in our mission by joining the network and getting your staff engaged to receive alerts, integrate your technology within the network to help us expand our reach, or consider including us in your community engagement programs through funding or other initiatives. You can be the reason a child makes it home and you can be part of the story that ends in hope. Be part of the solution. David Kendall reposted thisDavid Kendall reposted thisMCSC PROUD TO PARTNER WITH OPP TO LOCATE MISSING CHILDREN (See OPP Media Release – https://lnkd.in/ghDbS3B4) We welcome the Ontario Provincial Police as a partner in the search for missing children. This partnership is critical because of the reach the OPP has in communities across Ontario. Thanks to their encouragement, more members of the public will be aware of the groundbreaking MCSC rescu app and can join thousands of other Canadians using their phones as tools of protection by volunteering digitally. Children go missing every day across Ontario. Too few of us ever know their names. MCSC, with the OPP want to make that change. "We know that there are thousands of children reported missing in Ontario every year," says Amanda Pick, CEO of the Missing Children Society of Canada. "Most children who go missing don’t qualify for AMBER Alerts. However, they still face unimaginable risks, including exploitation, trafficking, and violence. "Rescu allows everyone to join in the search and the partnership with the OPP increases the spotlight on a tool that brings missing children to safety faster." Activate Rescu. Join the Digital Volunteer Network at https://rescu.mcsc.ca To our incredible partners at Esri Canada and Microsoft, thank you for empowering us to transform everyday devices into lifelines. Because of your innovation and belief in our mission, Canadians now have a way to turn their phones into powerful tools of protection, joining the search for missing children through digital volunteerism. #ActivateRescu #WeSeeYou #MissingChildren #MCSC #OPP #MicrosoftForGood #EsriCanada #DigitalVolunteers #PublicSafety #MCSCrescu

David Kendall shared thisAfter several months of behind the scenes work, I'm proud to share that the Ontario Provincial Police has announced a partnership with the Missing Children Society of Canada to engage the public and help bring vulnerable children home. As Fractional CTO at MCSC, it has been an honour to play a small role in achieving this milestone, and as a father, it has been a privilege to support this mission.David Kendall shared thisIn 2024, there were 32,680 reports of missing children and youth in Canada, but 99% of cases did not meet the criteria for an AMBER Alert 🚨. I've been a board member of the Missing Children Society of Canada (MCSC) for 10 years, supporting their mission to return vulnerable children to a safe environment. MCSC has employed some of the latest technology from Microsoft and Esri to create the MCSC rescu app, which allows the public to see cases of missing children and send tips directly through the app so police that help locate and bring them to safety. Today, in recognition of Missing Children’s Month and International Missing Children’s Day, the Ontario Provincial Police have announced a new partnership with MCSC. If a child goes missing within OPP jurisdiction, the OPP will now collaborate with MCSC to publish details on “rescu” and, if appropriate criteria is met, issue Child Search Alerts. These are targeted and non-intrusive alerts are only sent to subscribers in the defined search area. Sign up today and join the community helping keep Canada's kids safe. All you have to do is activate the web app at https://rescu.mcsc.ca/. You can also register to receive SMS alerts about missing children in your area. David Kendall shared thisSome years ago, I began to notice that I and many of my male peers were, let’s say, overconfident in our opinions. If something makes sense, it must be true. It has been a bourgeoning realization, living with a successful woman who is regularly mansplained by her male colleagues. We jokingly call this White Man Syndrome. A few days ago, a friend - I'll call him Timothy - told me with absolute certainty that airlines have to deplane passengers if they need to refuel due to delays. I argued that I’ve often boarded planes while they were being fueled. Timothy replied, “Well, that’s what I heard,” adding that it doesn’t make sense or sound safe. I recognized the syndrome. It occurred to me that ChatGPT does exactly the same thing. For example, telling me that $444.76 bn is 3.2% more than $456.8 bn and then blaming its sources. I told ChatGPT the story of Timothy and deplaning for refueling, and asked it to write a short story. I prompted it with this: Me: "Timothy's tendency to be confident in his own opinions seems to be a male trait. Women seem to be less overly-confident. We call this White Man Syndrome. Unlike Timothy, who believes his own feelings and opinions and doesn't do research, ChatGPT is trained on actual data. But that data is sometimes incorrect. Still, ChatGPT presents it with all the certainty of Timothy. Write a short essay about ChatGPT being The Ultimate White Man." *** ChatGPT exhibits an anthropomorphic quirk: the overconfidence often linked to the self-assured "white man." Like Timothy, who substitutes feelings for facts, ChatGPT delivers answers with conviction. Unlike Timothy, its confidence is dataset-driven, though data can be flawed. ChatGPT doesn't "believe" but sounds like it does. Its polished tone, composed sentences, and seemingly airtight logic can mislead users into viewing it as an expert. Yet, like Timothy, it mistakes incomplete data for truth. Where Timothy relies on anecdotes, ChatGPT uses billions of data points, theoretically ensuring accuracy. However, errors or biases in this data can result in confidently wrong answers. Its design discourages hedging, delivering errors with the same poise as facts. This decisive tone, while making ChatGPT user-friendly, can also make it dangerously misleading. The humor in the "white man" comparison lies in its delivery: confident, polished, and devoid of humility. ChatGPT can adapt via feedback, but it mirrors Timothy's worst habit: confidently presenting half-truths. On unfamiliar topics, it may "hallucinate," creating plausible but fictional responses. The striking parallel between ChatGPT and Timothy is their shared reluctance to admit uncertainty. For ChatGPT, this reflects its design, which avoids ambiguity. Both avoid phrases like “I don’t know” or “It depends” which might erode their veneer of expertise. *** My wife Heather noted that “I don’t know” or “It depends” are in fact clear signs of expertise, suggesting that ChatGPT is indeed a White Man.

David Kendall reacted on thisDavid Kendall reacted on thisAs many of you know, I've been in a job search since May 2025. Nine months later, I have news. When I started, three people shaped how I approached the process. Matt McIlwain told me to be patient — and knowing I'm not, pushed me to give myself the time I needed. Michael Dickstein told me the search could easily take a year. I almost fell off my chair. And Megan Torres, without even realizing she was giving advice, asked me a simple question: "What's your strategy?" When I admitted I didn't really have one, she told me about a friend who had turned a brutal job search into something unexpected. Instead of grinding, her friend made a list of every person she'd loved working with but lost touch with. She reached out. Reconnected. And eventually, one of those conversations led to a job offer. A horrible process had become a delightful one. That's exactly what I did. For nine months, I connected with 200 people across nearly 2,000 interactions. It was hard in ways I didn't expect. But it gave me something I didn't expect either — real empathy for a process most people dread but everyone eventually has to go through. I told everyone I was open to anything: big company, small company, any stage, any title. And I meant it. But across 2,000 conversations, I kept hearing something no one actually said: you build companies. That's what you do. The search led somewhere I didn't expect. I decided to start a company. We incorporated in March. A few weeks ago, T Van Doren and Matt Witcher joined as co-founders. T was employee #1 at 98point6 Technologies Inc.. Matt was employee #8. We've built something together before. Part of the band is back together again. We're in stealth for now — the idea and the story behind it will come. But right now, we're imagining. We're shaping the vision, building the team, defining the culture. The slate is clean. The sky is open. And we are having an absolute blast. #entrepreneurship #startups #leadership #lessonslearned

David Kendall reacted on thisDavid Kendall reacted on thisFun one this week as we were contacted by someone looking to purchase CS Online for #PalmOS. PalmOS! It's been almost 20 years since we worked with Janam to add support for their unique hardware. They were the last new PalmOS devices, and with that CS Online supported everything since the PalmPilot. Treos on cellular, the Dana laptop, the Fossil watch, you name it. Universal support - then that was the end of the show. Well you don't really support 20 yr old discontinued product, right? _Of course we do!_ We're not sure what mission this man is on, but how could we not? Actually had to rewrite some purchasing code that no longer worked because of language drift, but we got him set up with a shiny new license and Online is back in action. 💪 Getting a working Tungsten T|X going for a product shot though made me consider what a great product run PalmOS really was. These devices were immediately _useful_. Buttons for instant access to Tasks, Memos and later Voice Notes were great for a time when a handheld device was to help you stay organized - not keep up with posts. Handwriting recognition that worked and phones you could operate one-handed - all without needing to track you or needing a subscription. I think we could use some more of that today. So safe travels to our intrepid new Online user, and a shout out to the folks behind an era of great product design. #productdesign #softwaredevelopment #productdevelopment

David Kendall reacted on thisDavid Kendall reacted on thisBermuda or Cayman? After spending 23 years in Bermuda, 22 years in Cayman, and now semi-retired in the Algarve, Portugal, I’ve seen both jurisdictions up close — personally and professionally. There’s little difference in overall living and business costs between Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. Both are expensive. Where Cayman has an edge is housing — whether buying or renting (and there’s zero property tax). Cayman is roughly four times the land mass of Bermuda, though only about 50% is currently habitable. Rental inventory is broader, from one-bedroom apartments to large family homes, most fully furnished. From a business perspective, Bermuda has very low work permit fees — a fraction of Cayman’s. However, Cayman has no payroll tax, unlike Bermuda. As always, it depends how you look at the total cost equation. Both countries continue to wrestle with the expatriate worker issue. Cayman has far more work permits (approximately 40,000) compared to Bermuda (roughly 6,000). Balancing the needs of the local population with reliance on expatriate talent is a challenge neither has fully solved — and they’re not alone in that. There is also, in both places, a degree of “them and us.” In Cayman, expatriate children cannot attend local public schools and must attend private schools, which can create a sense of separation from the outset. Bermuda allows expatriates to attend public schools, though most still choose private education. (I sent my three daughters to Bermuda High School before they headed off to university.) In terms of lifestyle, if you value year-round sunshine, beaches, broader housing options, and the ability to own more than one car (from experience, bikes are not ideal in Cayman), Cayman is attractive. That said, I have a soft spot for Bermuda. It’s where I arrived in the mid-80s, built a successful business, and had the privilege of raising three amazing daughters — now blessed with five grandchildren. Bermuda is stunning and a boater’s paradise, though seasonal. I was once told Bermuda’s national flower is “mildew” — winters can be damp. So why did we leave the islands? Healthcare costs were a major factor, along with a desire to immerse ourselves in European culture. We now spend winters in Florida and visit friends and family in both Bermuda and Cayman. If I had to do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing. #Bermuda #CaymanIslands #ExpatLife #InternationalBusiness #Entrepreneurship #GlobalWorkforce

David Kendall liked thisDavid Kendall liked thisStarted and released Hopper this weekend, here it is modelled in Epilogue Tracker. It's now part of my agentic bus-ops system. Tooling in bus-ops now includes this (general work queuing and claiming), and previously released Finance (budget tracking, reporting), Hone (project maintenance and quality iteration), and Epilogue Tracker (product-ops). All can be wielded agentically. Right now I have an admin assistant agent that wields Hopper and Finance, and connects to comms (email, whatsapp). That's a fun exercise in constraints 🤣 agentic security is wild west right now - very much feels like early Internet days where any script-kiddie with a root-kit could do some real damage, and systems were kept online by the shortest learning loop we could muster to adapt to threats.

Systems that learn from historical data, make predictions, and optimize without explicit programming. → Forecast sales and demand with precision → Detect fraud before it hits your bottom line → Predict customer churn and intervene proactively → Optimize pricing based on market conditions Tools: AWS SageMaker, Google Vertex AI, Azure ML — 𝟮. 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 & 𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Complex pattern detection at scale. When data gets complex, images, audio, and documents, traditional algorithms fall short. Neural networks recognize what humans can't program. → Inspect product quality with computer vision → Enable voice commands and real-time transcription → Process invoices, contracts, and documents → Power facial recognition for security Tools: TensorFlow, PyTorch, AWS Rekognition — 𝟯. 📈 How do you turn promising AI experiments into real products that deliver real value? That’s the question Mike Mead, CPTO at The Scale Factory, is exploring at #CTOCraftCon: Financial Services. The big blockers come through clearly: • Legacy platforms that slow or block AI adoption • Risk and regulatory pressure that shape what teams can ship • Proofs of concept that work in controlled settings but fall apart in production • Data strategies that don’t scale securely The message is simple: innovation only works when the underlying data platform can support it.

One thing we've learned working with enterprise customers is that AI adoption rarely comes down to the model. The real questions are around security, access, governance, and trust. Can the right people access the right information? Can teams understand where answers came from? Can the platform meet the standards required for enterprise deployment? Those challenges are often much harder than the technology itself. Congratulations to Ultimarii CTO Duane Wood on being recognized by CIOReview as one of Canada's Top 10 CTOs. His article does a great job highlighting the role technology leaders play in balancing innovation with security, compliance, and responsible deployment. It's a perspective that has shaped how we've approached building Ultimarii and one that becomes more important every day as AI moves from experimentation into critical business workflows. https://lnkd.in/gTS__itg

Reflecting on last week in Toronto with 250+ CEOs and leaders at the Banyan Software Global Leadership Conference. The theme was Future Forward, and it showed up everywhere - in how leaders are hiring, where they're investing, and how AI is opening up growth that wasn't possible a year ago. Leaders were from different countries, different markets, but all have the same focus: talent, product, and velocity. The goal isn't to create balance between them- they're one system and the companies getting it right are moving on all three at once!

AI is advancing faster than the frameworks we’ve built to guide it. The opportunity is enormous - but so is the responsibility that comes with it. At Malar Group, we believe the future of AI cannot be shaped by regulation alone. The companies building these technologies must take an active role in defining standards, accountability, and long-term impact. Our founder, Sayan Navaratnam, shares this perspective in a recent op-ed published in the Toronto Sun - outlining why industry leadership will be critical in the next phase of AI adoption.
