We’re excited to share a well-deserved leadership update at Hoot Reading. Caitlin Mehra has been promoted to Chief Learning Officer. 🎉 For several years now, Caitlin has played a critical role in shaping the quality and impact of our programs - from advancing our structured literacy approach to supporting the educators and students at the heart of our work. Her leadership has helped ensure that what we deliver is not only evidence-based, but truly meaningful for the students and communities we serve. In this new role, Caitlin will expand her scope to also oversee Product, Technology, and Operations, bringing even stronger alignment across how we design, deliver, and scale our programs. This isn't much of a stretch for someone who has been strategically leading us behind the scenes for some time now. We’re incredibly excited for what’s ahead. Congratulations, Caitlin!

National Student Support Accelerator's rigorous study found that students receiving Hoot Reading 1:1 virtual tutoring within an MTSS framework… 📌 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 – Other students, on average, just slightly missed the typical growth benchmark. 📌 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽 – Most students didn’t fully catch up in a single year, which is normal, but tutoring helped move them closer. 📌 𝗠𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 – Nearly half of tutored students met or exceeded versus about one-third of non-tutored peers. 📌 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 “𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵-𝘂𝗽” 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 – Only a small share of students in each group (about 17% and 14% respectively) met these goals, which are intentionally ambitious, but tutoring still helped more students reach it.
One of the more interesting findings from our latest early literacy tutoring study isn’t just that targeted students improved, it’s how their growth compared to national expectations. We looked at two types of progress measures from the i-Ready assessment: 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 (𝘛𝘺𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩): Did students grow as much as an average student normally would in a school year? 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 (𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩): Did students grow fast enough to realistically close the gap toward grade-level proficiency? Here’s what we found: While both groups improved, more struggling students (Tier III) receiving 1:1 virtual tutoring within an MTSS framework… 📌 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵 – Other students, on average, just slightly missed the typical growth benchmark. 💡𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆: Tutoring didn’t just help struggling students improve; it helped more students grow faster than expected and move closer to grade-level proficiency (especially when attendance and implementation were closely monitored!) In an era of persistent reading gaps, growth acceleration matters. Read the full study: https://lnkd.in/gVqZ6qac

🗞️ Tutoring News: New evidence continues to strengthen the case for virtual high-impact tutoring! A recent article by K-12 Dive highlights findings from our recent randomized controlled trial examining a large-scale virtual tutoring program delivered by Hoot Reading in Kansas City Public Schools. In our study of 1,550 students across 14 elementary schools (grades 1-4), students receiving 1:1 teacher-led virtual tutoring showed statistically significant improvements in literacy outcomes. Students who were the furthest behind and received the virtual tutoring outperformed their peers and gained weeks or months of learning. 👏🏼 The findings add to a growing body of research showing that when tutoring is high-dosage, consistent, and embedded within systems like MTSS, it can deliver meaningful results for students who need support the most. At a time when many schools are still working to accelerate reading recovery, scalable models of effective tutoring are more important than ever! 📃 Read the study here: https://lnkd.in/gVqZ6qac 🔗 Read the article by Anna Merod here: https://lnkd.in/eXWFC-xs
