In this month's What's Cool in Sustainability, read about this climate shift as well as buildings with a 'nervous system,' the accessibility of decarbonization funding and why snow makes outdoor lighting feel comforting and warm.

The Gregory Bateson Building has always been ahead of its time. Originally completed in the late 1970s as one of California’s first energy-efficient state buildings, it’s been thoughtfully preserved and modernized through a progressive design-build effort led by McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and CannonDesign. The renewed building celebrates its most recognizable features, including the expansive atrium with its iconic fabric tubes used to support passive airflow. We also restored and upgraded the façade to boost performance while staying true to the original design, and introduced modern workplace areas that bring fresh energy and flexibility to this LEED Platinum landmark. 📸 : Laura Peters
