Project learning programs & platform that powers employability skills & future careers.

About us

Practera is an education technology and services company, connecting the world of work and learning through technology. Our mission is to build the world’s leading system to help educators deliver scalable experiential learning programs. We have offices and staff across six countries and a global technology-led vision. What we do: • Licensing for our world-leading experiential learning platform • Experiential learning design and advisory for our platform • Full-service program delivery by our award-winning Programs team Employers are constantly demanding graduates with more work-ready skills, but Universities struggle to deliver high quality work integrated learning to large numbers of students. Practera helps Universities and corporates deliver excellent experiential programs, cost effectively, at scales of hundreds to thousands of students. Our business model is supported by proprietary technology which we have developed specifically for work integrated learning. Work integrated learning is a rapidly growing $50bn industry within the $1.5T global higher education market. There is opportunity for disruption because existing solutions, such as internships, have high overheads and are hard to scale for both Corporate and University participants. We believe that our smart technology, combined with the right business model, can also help change the economics and outcomes of work integrated learning, creating dramatic growth opportunities for the industry. We are leveraging the same technology capabilities and trends that are driving the adoption of MOOCs, learning analytics and adaptive learning.

  • Practera is heading to the Graduate Futures Institute Annual Conference 2026. The conference brings together the people shaping the future of careers, employability and student opportunity across higher education. For us, one question sits at the heart of that conversation: How can universities make real industry experience more accessible to more students, without adding unsustainable workload for careers teams, academics or employer partners? We’ll be there to discuss inclusive, scalable ways to connect students with structured live industry projects, evidence of skill development and meaningful employer engagement. Practera is also proud to support the Inclusivity and Opportunity Award as a platinum sponsor, reflecting a belief behind our work: access to meaningful industry experience should not depend on a student’s network, location, timetable or confidence. If you’re attending Graduate Futures 2026, come and speak with us. #GraduateFutures2026 #GraduateEmployability #WorkBasedLearning #HigherEducation #Employability

  • 70% of employers are now using skills-based hiring, up from 65% last year. GPA screening has dropped from 73% to just 42% since 2019. The shift is real, and it is happening fast. What employers are looking for has changed. Demonstrated skills now carry more weight than a transcript ever did, especially during interviews where 87% of employers apply this approach. The challenge is that most students still do not fully understand what skills-based hiring means or how to show up prepared for it. Real projects with real clients are one of the most direct ways students can build and evidence those skills before they even graduate. That gap between what employers want and what students can prove is one we work on closing every single day. • We're so proud of everyone in the University of Newcastle: Global Industry Project. Sarathi Ganesh Marimuthu captured it perfectly here. #Practera #WorkIntegratedLearning Newcastle University | Newcastle University Business School

Two weeks ago I walked into this knowing the theory. I'm walking out actually understanding the industry. As part of my MSc at Newcastle University Business School, I had the chance to lead Team Forge - six of us, different backgrounds, different specialisms, same brief — through a live consulting project for Orchestra Data, a Physical AI startup working at the intersection of factory operations and machine intelligence. All powered by Practera's Global Industry Project programme. Our job? Evaluate the sensing technologies that could form the backbone of Orchestra Data's next product — depth cameras, eye trackers, acoustic sensors, tactile arrays, biosensing. The kind of hardware that teaches machines how humans actually work. I came into this having built a startup at 18, run sponsorship pipelines, built Angular web applications, AI models and spent months in an internship. And I still learned something new almost every day of this project. That's the honest version. What I'm proudest of isn't the report. It's the team. 📌 Julie (Liu Jianing) — kept every single communication professional, warm, and on time. Our client never had to chase us once. 📌 Sierra (Zhang Shuoyan) — went deep on depth sensing with the kind of rigour that made the rest of us raise our game. 📌 Xinyu (Wang Xinyu) — brought ideas nobody else was thinking about. Genuinely the most creative thinker in the room. 📌 Changrun (Xie) — pulled apart the competitive landscape and found gaps that became the core of our recommendations. 📌 Celeste (Jingwen Lai) — delivered her section with more technical depth than most professionals would manage in twice the time. To Nemo Shi and the Orchestra Data team — thank you for trusting a group of students with a real brief and giving us genuine feedback rather than polite encouragement. That made all the difference. To the Newcastle University Careers Team — and especially Shirin Nedumannil, who genuinely pushed me to sign up for this when I was on the fence about it — thank you. You were right. And to Practera — the structure you build around these projects turns what could be a box-ticking exercise into something that actually stretches you. If you're an MSc student wondering whether to take on something like this alongside your dissertation — just do it. I'm currently finishing my MSc in Business Analytics here at Newcastle this September and actively looking for opportunities in analytics, AI, marketing and strategy from September 2026. If something comes to mind, my inbox is open 🙂 #NewcastleUniversity #Practera #PhysicalAI #BusinessAnalytics #StudentConsultant #Manufacturing #MachineLearning #RealWorldLearning #NewcastleUniversity #MSc #GraduateJobs #AI

  • One year in, the numbers speak for themselves. 89% completion rate. 92% of students are likely to use the experience as evidence in future opportunities. 80% of project reports rated High or Outstanding Quality. So proud of what the Horizons programme has achieved since launching at AGCAS 2025 and incredibly grateful to Kate Daubney PFHEA FRSA for her leadership as Chair of Horizons Governance. This is exactly what inclusive experiential learning looks like in practice. #Horizons #ExperientialLearning #Employability #Inclusion #HigherEducation #Practera #WIL Graduate Futures Institute

As we approach this year’s Graduate Futures Institute conference, a year has passed since Beau Leese, Louise Moran and I launched Practera’s Horizons programme at the AGCAS 2025 Conference. Horizons provides a 1st experiential learning of work with authentic industry clients to students from under-represented groups who are at risk of progression into graduate employment. We've completed 5 cohorts with 200+ students since launch. As Chair of Horizons Governance, I’ve had the privilege of watching those cohorts succeed. So what have we learned? And what does the impact look like? 🔭 Identify the students you want to help: At our recent Horizons Community of Practice, we had a rich discussion about how to engage students. Whether you use data about cohorts at risk of progression, or graduate outcomes data, a targeted approach that states the benefits and outcomes directly to students is most effective to engage participants. 🚧 Address barriers by design: At last year's Conference, Charlotte Brown CPsychol and Lindsay Halliday reflected on the complex intersecting barriers faced by students from under-represented groups. The mostly asynchronous model of Horizons’ virtual 3 week projects addresses a lot of those barriers by making it easier to engage around other commitments. We’ve also learned that timing cohorts to avoid teaching has effectively reduced stress points. ✅ Students benefit: The increases in career readiness and skill development are really clear and exciting, and are all above target programme benchmarks: ●      89% completion rate ●      87% feel they've gained relevant work experience ●      92% likeliness to use the experience as evidence in future opportunities ●      81% are more aware of their next career steps ●      84% developed their target transferable skillset 📢 Client feedback: We've been energised by the quality and range of project clients: SMEs, Start-Ups, NGOs & Charities. 80% of project reports were rated as High or Outstanding Quality which is incredible in the context of this being a first experiential learning of the workplace for our students, all working in groups with students from other HEIs. A CEO from an international education NGO said “I’m thoroughly impressed….It’s clear you’ve not only listened but have masterfully incorporated the core ideas into a solid actionable pyramid of progress.” A digital marketing founder said “There are a number of actions we will take based on this work.” This is exactly what Horizons was designed to do: to create opportunities for students to learn through developing actionable outcomes for authentic industry partners. 🤝 Diverse partners: We've been fortunate to partner with universities across the UK and across all mission groups in the last year. We've learned a lot from your participation, your approaches to engagement and how you have integrated Horizons into other initiatives. Thank you all! Chat to Jane Hallett or myself if you'd like to learn more!

  • Not every student team gets compared to high-calibre graduates from leading global organisations, but this one did. Peter Pychtin from EarlyCareerZ has been a long-time industry partner across Practera projects, so when he says this team surpassed the others, he has a genuine basis for that comparison. What set this team apart was not just the depth of their analysis and recommendations through the Horizons Australia Digital Industry Projects program, but the way they carried themselves throughout the project. They were not afraid to raise challenging issues directly with Peter as the client, and they came prepared with proposals on how to address them rather than simply flagging problems and stepping back. That combination of rigour, confidence and accountability is exactly what industry partners hope for and rarely get all at once. Peter went as far as saying he would personally recommend each team member, and that kind of individual endorsement from an experienced professional is hard to earn. A big thank you to Peter and the team at EarlyCareerZ for being the kind of partner that brings out the best in students. #DigitalIndustryProjects #HorizonsAustralia #IndustryPartner #Practera #FutureOfWork

  • International education and international students make an enormous economic and social contribution to NSW and Australia. At Practera, we have seen that contribution first-hand through our long-running partnership with Study NSW. Since 2016, we have worked together to deliver programs that engage more than 2,000 NSW business and community organisations with more than 10,000 international students from 44 NSW higher education institutions, helping to research business challenges, build capability, and support investment decisions. We are proud to support Study NSW in promoting the 2026 NSW International Education Awards, especially the Employer Award category, which recognises NSW employers creating genuine pathways, inclusive workplaces and meaningful outcomes for international students and graduates. We are also excited to partner with Study NSW on their Global Skills Pathway program, connecting NSW-based businesses with global talent and giving them the opportunity to contribute to a stronger global talent system in NSW. If your organisation, or someone in your network, is helping international students contribute to NSW, consider nominating them. • Always exciting to see University-Industry partnerships delivering moments like this. Shoutout to Francesca Longfellow for sharing their experience 👏 #Practera #FutureOfWork

Over the last two weeks I completed a professional business project consulting for Luca Jakab and ANTIDOTE Changemakers - a purpose-led strategy studio that equips changemakers with ethical strategy, accessible tools and collaborative learning spaces. During the project, my role included researching competitor pricing strategies and identifying benchmarks for ANTIDOTE. Through teamwork, researching and the assistance of generative AI, I was able to produce a detailed report for Luca. Luca gave excellent feedback, enabling the team to make improvements and learn more about consulting. Overall, I learnt how to turn hours of market research and analysis into a consice, informative piece of work for my client. In the future, I hope to apply the skills obtained when participating in other consulting and research projects. Thank you so much, Luca Jakab, Practera and Durham University for this incredible experience which has enabled me to colloborate with other Durham University students in a real world business situation. #Practera #DurhamUniversity

  • The QS World University Rankings 2027 are out, with more than 1,500 universities across 100 locations assessed. While rankings provide a valuable benchmark, they tell only part of the story. The institutions making the greatest impact are those that combine academic excellence with meaningful opportunities for students to develop real-world skills and experience. Today, employability, industry engagement, and practical learning are no longer optional extras. They are essential components of a high-quality student experience. We're proud to see so many of our university partners featured in this year's rankings. Congratulations to all of them on this well-deserved recognition. #QSRankings2027 #HigherEducation #ExperientialLearning #WorkIntegratedLearning #Practera #Employability
