Live Online Training and UX Certification Program

By registering for Live Online Training or the UX Certification Program, you agree to these terms and conditions.

1 Payment and Registration

  • Payment Required: Registration is complete only after full payment is received. If you need an invoice, use the printable invoice or email confirmation received after online registration.
  • What's Included: Registration fees cover event attendance only. UX Certification exam fees are separate charges.
  • Exam Fees: You may pay UX Certification exam fees during registration or after attending the conference.

2 Cancellations and Refunds

  • Live Online Training Cancellations
    • Before refund deadline: 80% refund (20% handling fee applies)
    • After refund deadline: No refunds available
    • Substitutions: Accepted up to 3 days before the event with written notice
  • Our Cancellations: If we cancel or reschedule due to technical issues or other circumstances, we'll apply your registration fees to the new date or provide a full refund. Our liability is limited to refunding registration and exam fees for affected days.
  • Location-Specific Policies: Refund and substitution policies may vary by location. Check your specific registration page for details.
  • Speaker Changes: We reserve the right to substitute speakers due to illness, travel issues, or other circumstances. We'll attempt to find suitable replacements when possible.

3 Accessibility and Special Needs

Contact us during registration if you need special accommodations (accessibility requests, neurodivergent needs, etc.).

4 Photography and Recording

  • Our Rights: We may photograph or screenshot courses and attendees for marketing future events.
  • Your Restrictions: The following are strictly prohibited:
    • AI notetaking software
    • Screen recording
    • Audio or video recording

5 Content and Intellectual Property

All course materials (presentations, slides, templates, documentation) are owned by NNGroup (Nielsen Norman Group).

  • Permitted Use: Personal, internal business use only
  • Prohibited Use: You may not:
    • Distribute, reproduce, or modify content
    • Upload to shared systems, websites, or cloud drives
    • Share with others or use commercially

6 Code of Conduct

Everyone who attends Live Online Training deserves a respectful and safe learning environment. By attending, you agree to: 

  • Expected Behavior: Treat others with respect, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, ethnicity, or religion (or lack thereof).
  • Prohibited Behavior: Harassment includes offensive verbal comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, sexual images in public spaces, deliberate intimidation, stalking, following, harassing photography or recording, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention. This includes the course tools, networking activities, Slack, and social media channels such as LinkedIn and X.
  • Enforcement: If you are being harassed or notice that someone else is being harassed, please contact a member of event staff, or have someone contact them on your behalf. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior must immediately comply. Those who do not will be asked to leave the event and may not be allowed to take UX Certification exams or attend future Live Online Training.

7 Online Participation

  • Live Online Training: When participating in online courses or communities:
    • Other participants can see your shared information
    • We won't republish your content without permission
    • You may leave at any time
    • Respect others' privacy and don't share their posts outside the community
  • Platform Policies: Refer to the Zoom privacy policy and Slack privacy policy for data processing details.

8 UX Certification Program

Privacy and Data

  • Exam Scores: Only shared with you via email and your online profile. Keep your account password secure.
  • Public Recognition: NNGroup maintains a public list of people who have achieved UX Certification at www.nngroup.com/ux-certification/verify/. Your name, country, and specialty recognition appear on our public certification list. You may opt out or update this information in your profile.
  • Data Retention: We keep training and exam records indefinitely to track credits and validate achievements. Contact certification@nngroup.com to delete your records.

Taking Exams

  • Exam Fees: Fees paid during event registration follow the same refund policy as tuition (see 2. Cancellations and Refunds). Fees paid after the event are non-refundable. 
  • Deadlines: Pass exams by the stated deadline to receive credit. One 30-day extension available for a fee due to illness or scheduling conflicts.
  • Attempts: Maximum 3 attempts per exam. No additional attempts available after the third failure.
  • Honor Code: You must:
    • Complete exams without assistance
    • Use only your own notes and distributed materials
    • Not save, copy, or share exam questions
    • Not help others with exam answers
  • Exam Answers: We don't release exam questions or answers to maintain fair assessment standards.

Course Credits

  • Certificate Requirements:
    • UX Certificate: 5 course credits
    • UX Master Certificate: 15 course credits
  • Earning Credits: Attend full-day courses, sign in, stay for the complete session, and pass the exam.
  • Repeat Courses: Each class can only earn credit once, even if retaken.
  • Past Courses: No credit given for past courses where exams weren't completed by the deadline.
  • Non-Payment: Certification revoked if payment isn't received. Any earned credits will be removed, and certification references must be removed.

9 Limitation of Liability

Our liability is limited to refunding registration and exam fees. We're not responsible for:

  • Lost, stolen, or destroyed digital goods
  • Travel or accommodation expenses
  • Technical issues beyond our control
  • Speaker substitutions or schedule changes

Self-Paced Training

By purchasing, accessing, or using Nielsen Norman Group's self-paced training offerings, you agree to these terms and conditions.

1 License and Usage Rights

  • Individual Use Only: Self-paced training is intended for individual, non-transferable use. Registration grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license for personal educational use only.
  • Access Duration: Unless otherwise specified at purchase, users receive ongoing, unlimited access to each course. NNGroup reserves the right to revise or discontinue access in the future. Temporary maintenance or upgrades may limit availability; when possible, we will provide advance notice.
  • Prohibited Uses: You may not:
    • Share, distribute, reproduce, or publish any training materials outside the platform
    • Reproduce content in your own articles or LinkedIn posts
    • Use content for commercial purposes or as part of separate training programs
    • Allow others to access your account or credentials
  • Violations: May result in immediate termination of access without refund.

2 Content and Intellectual Property

All training content (videos, exercises, documentation, methodologies) is owned by NNGroup (Nielsen Norman Group) and protected by copyright and intellectual property laws. You may not copy, record, modify, adapt, distribute, or create derivative works without explicit written permission.

3 Account Responsibilities

  • Account Information: Provide accurate registration information and keep login credentials secure. You're responsible for all activity under your account.
  • Prohibited Conduct: You may not use services in ways that violate laws, infringe on others' rights, interfere with system security, or attempt to access other users' accounts.

4 Access, Service Changes, and Refunds

  • Termination Rights: We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms, content sharing, abusive behavior, or attempts to resell access.
  • Service Modifications: We reserve the right to discontinue or modify services at our discretion.
  • All Sales Final: No refunds issued once access is granted due to the digital nature of content. Contact support@nngroup.com with pre-purchase questions.

5 Third-Party Tools and Integrations

Some self-paced training courses may include access to external tools, platforms, or services (for example, custom GPTs hosted by third-party providers). By choosing to use these tools, you agree to the following:

  • Access Control: NNGroup cannot prevent the redistribution of links or credentials for third-party tools. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your access remains limited to your own personal use. Sharing access with others is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate termination of your course license.
  • Availability: NNGroup does not control the continued availability or operation of third-party tools. If such services are modified, suspended, or discontinued by their provider, NNGroup is not responsible for maintaining or replacing them.
  • Data Privacy and Security: Any information you choose to share with third-party tools is provided at your own risk. NNGroup does not monitor, control, or take responsibility for how third parties collect, use, or store your data. You should avoid disclosing confidential, proprietary, or sensitive information when using such tools.
  • Disclaimer: Use of third-party tools is optional (where applicable) and provided “as is.” NNGroup disclaims any liability for issues arising from their use, including loss of access, data exposure, or misuse of shared information.

6 Data Collection and Privacy

Use of the self-paced platform is also governed by NNGroup’s Privacy Policy. By using the platform, you consent to the collection and use of information as outlined in that policy. This may include analytics related to your usage, progress, and interactions with the training materials, which help us improve the learning experience.

7 Technical Requirements and Support

You are responsible for ensuring that your device and internet connection meet the minimum technical requirements to access the training materials. NNGroup is not liable for access issues due to incompatible devices, firewalls, or limited bandwidth. For technical support, contact selfpaced@nngroup.com. We strive to respond within 2 business days.

8 Limitations of Liability

NNGroup provides self-paced training "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. NNGroup will not be liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use or inability to use the training platform or content.

Reports and Books

  • All Sales Final: All sales of reports, videos, DVDs, and books are final. These informational products are immediately consumable after download or delivery.
  • Purchase Verification: Ensure your order is correct before completing your purchase.
  • Technical Support: Contact support@nngroup.com for download issues. We'll promptly resolve technical problems.
  • Lost or Damaged Items: We're not responsible for lost, stolen, deleted, misplaced, or destroyed digital goods after delivery.

What Qualifies as Fair Use

Our fair-use policy applies to nonprofit or educational contexts. For example, university lecturers or students.

  • It also includes anyone who will transform the content in some way — for example, adding criticism or commentary.

Permissions and Requirements

You may quote a few lines of our content or use one or more illustrations without special permission, provided that you credit Nielsen Norman Group (NNGroup) in these ways:

  • (a) List the company name (Nielsen Norman Group, NN/G or NNGroup) as the source

2 Digital Reproduction without Fair Use

  • Reprinting entire articles: We do not allow other websites or social media accounts to repost entire articles without explicit written permission from us. To request permission, please email support@nngroup.com.
  • Quoting articles or videos: You can quote Nielsen Norman Group content with proper citation and link to the original source.
  • Illustrations from articles or videos: You are welcome to use a single figure from an article or video, with proper citation or link to the original source. Do not remove the NNGroup watermark or logo from visuals.
  • Social media: These policies apply to social media reproduction as well. Feel free to quote NNGroup content and credit the author, but do not repost entire articles or social posts.

3 Data, Stimuli, and Templates

Nielsen Norman Group sometimes publishes the data sets, methodology details, stimuli, prototypes, or other study materials used in our independent studies.

We welcome and encourage the use of those materials, as well as any NNGroup templates, in your own work or research. We do not approve reprinting those materials without written consent.

4 Physical Reprints and Paper Publishing

If you are interested in printing copyrighted Nielsen Norman Group content on paper (e.g., in a physical book), then you have permission to do so for free within the following limits:

  • Publication for a nonprofit organization: You may reprint up to NNGroup 4 articles or visuals, provided you include the URL from the original source.
  • Publication for for-profit organization: You may reprint up to 2 NNGroup articles or visuals, provided you include the URL from the original source.
