Fellowes Brands began in 1917 when Harry Fellowes acquired a small business smacking corrugated file boxes, originally designed by Walter Nickel. He transformed this into the Bankers Box Company and had lots of early success due to the surge in demand for organised storage solutions. The business began to expand quickly, and when Harry’s sons Folger and John grew up, they joined the business in the 1930s. Grandson, James, joined in 1969 and was president of the business in 1983, and then CEO in 1997.

In 1997, the company rebranded as Fellowes, reflecting its diversification into office products like shredders, laminators and ergonomic accessories. In 2015, it changed its name to Fellowes Brands to encompass its wider portfolio, which includes workplace wellness products and even office furniture. Today, it continues to provide innovative office products under John Fellowes, who is the founder’s great-grandson. The company remains in its original headquarters in Itasca, Illinois and employs over 1,000 people.
