The Athletic has live coverage of USMNT vs Bosnia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
American soccer fans looking to purchase U.S. men’s national team jerseys as the team prepares for the World Cup knockout stage may soon be running short of options with supplies running low among U.S. retailers.
Some of the most popular online stores for USMNT merchandise — Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fanatics, Soccer.com and the official U.S. Soccer store — are all showing limited availability of the jerseys, made by Nike, particularly for the popular red-striped home shirt. One retail executive told The Athletic that supply could run out as soon as the next few days.

“(Nike has) been told by countless retailers you need to make more jerseys way before these events happen and they just don’t do it. They just ignore it,” said the source, who requested anonymity in order to speak candidly about the situation.
As of Friday morning on Nike’s own website, the home USMNT jersey is only available in some player-specific versions, with limited sizing in both youth and adult options, while the away shirt is sold out in adult sizes yet available in some youth sizes. Dick’s Sporting Goods has limited sizes of Christian Pulisic’s and Weston McKennie’s home jerseys and some youth sizes of the away shirt. Fanatics has limited sizes in adult home jerseys and some youth away jerseys. Soccer.com only has the home and away jerseys in one size (small). The same is the case for U.S. Soccer’s web shop.
“We know, from Nike, how well our jerseys are selling,” U.S. Soccer CEO JT Batson told The Athletic earlier this week. “We know from other retailers that we are crushing, all over the country, sales; people are sold out of our stuff.”
According to U.S. Soccer, the team’s World Cup kits had record-breaking sales in the first two weeks of availability following their March release.
The pace has also been historic as the USMNT roared to the top of its 2026 World Cup group. “For U.S. Soccer Store e-commerce sales only, we have sold more than double the number of jerseys we sold through the group stage of the 2022 World Cup,” a federation spokesperson told The Athletic on Friday.
The spokesperson added: “U.S. merchandise is available in 10x the number of locations compared to the 2022 World Cup. … We have been working with retailers to track down additional inventory to meet the demand.”
According to a Nike spokesperson, additional supply of the $100 USMNT Stadium jerseys will be available on July 1 through Nike’s website, Fanatics and U.S. Soccer’s shop.

Nike faced similar issues in February when the U.S. men’s hockey team won Olympic gold for the first time since the 1980 “Miracle on Ice,” causing a surge of interest in the team’s jerseys. Brands like Nike attempt to estimate how many jerseys they need to make ahead of major events such as the Olympics and World Cup, and then produce a set amount of merchandise to be sold with the objective of not having surplus inventory once those events have ended and interest drastically decreases. When the unexpected happens, like a gold medal win against Canada in hockey, demand can outgrow supply. But the USMNT’s early success in a World Cup on home soil with a group that also includes Australia, Paraguay and Turkey, was arguably far more predictable than USA hockey’s gold medal.
“There’s always going to be high demand because it’s the World Cup,” the retail executive said. “Now imagine if a team makes a run, you’re going to take that and just pour gasoline over it. … The issue is you’re going to be sold out before you get out of the first round and you just don’t have a system to replenish quickly. That’s really the problem.”
Adidas is also having trouble keeping pace with demand for Germany jerseys and several of the unexpected sartorial hits of the tournament, including Curaçao and Japan’s away shirts (even though neither have appeared at the tournament). When the Curaçao shirt sold out prior to the World Cup even kicking off, Adidas told The Athletic that it planned to restock at some point this summer.
After winning Group D with two wins and a loss, the U.S. will face Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET in the World Cup’s Round of 32.
