SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 26 September 1942 as PC-1322 by Harris and Parsons, Inc., Greenwich, CT
  • Reclassified SC-1322 and launched 8 April 1943
  • Commissioned USS SC-1322, 2 June 1943 under the command of ENS John R. Kringel, USNR
  • Decommissioned 1 September 1945
  • Transferred to the Maritime Commission 7 January 1948
  • Given to Edward and William B. Baletti of Weehawken, NJ in 1949 as compensation for damages done to the converted steam yacht Palace [PYc 33], which had been acquired for the war effort
  • Named Palace III and used as a passenger vessel
  • Acquired in 1954 by Palace III, Inc. of Weehawken
  • Acquired in 1977 by Lynnway Boat Service, Inc. of Revere MA
  • Sold in the late 1970s, relocated to Florida and renamed The Lords Mercy
  • Out of documentation by 1989
  • Fate unknown.

  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Guns," two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
