SC-682 served both the U. S. Navy and Coast Guard
SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 8 April 1942 by American Cruiser Works, Riverside, MI
  • Launched 18 September 1942
  • Delivered 9 November 1942 and commissioned USS PC-682
  • Reclassified SC-682 in April 1943
  • Decommissioned in August 1945
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 23 October 1945 and commissioned USCGC Air Hawk (WAVR 428)
  • Struck from the Naval Register 16 November 1945
  • Acquired in 1949 by Joseph C. Jett, Jr. of Reedville, VA for use as a fishing boat and renamed Air Hawk
  • Acquired in 1954 by William N. Keith of Galveston, TX
  • Foundered 16 February 1955, about 16 miles northeast of Aransas Pass, TX.

  • Displacement 94 t.
  • Length 110"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two "Y Guns," and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,540bhp General Motors (Electro-Motive Div.) 16-184A diesel engines, two shafts.
