Solid Waste

The City of Monroe contracts with Waste Pro for solid waste collection. We offer residents weekly garbage, bulk, and yard waste service. Recycling is collected every other week. Residents will be provided with one green 96-gallon cart for garbage and one black 96-gallon cart for recyclables.

Collection Tips

  • Place your carts no more than four feet from the curbside by 7 a.m. on your day of service. You can place your carts on the curb anytime after 5 p.m. the night before.
  • Remove your carts from the curbside no later than 7 p.m. on the same day of your service to avoid receiving any violations.
  • Leave a two-foot space between your two carts and any obstructions like mailboxes, parked cars, utility poles, etc. When placing your carts curbside, place them with the wheels facing your home.
  • Do not place grass clippings, yard waste, medical waste, construction and building materials, auto parts, electronics, or hazardous waste in your garbage cart.

Leave space between carts and obstructions

Trash and recycling carts with 2 foot spacing between each other and a car and mailbox.
  • In an effort to keep the City of Monroe beautiful, we ask that residents bag all the garbage being placed in the green garbage carts. Litter occurring while emptying roll-out garbage carts with unbagged garbage will be the household's responsibility to clean up. This only applies to the garbage carts. Please do not bag recyclables or place bags in the recycling carts. Visit our Recycling page to see what items belong in your recycling cart.
