This is an amazing show, beautifully acted and simply beautiful to look at (early episodes this season were directed by Stephen Gyllenhaal, Lawrence Trilling, and Billy Gierhart), with a keen appreciation for faith and family and community that eludes even some of TV's more celebrated dramas.

It's rich with beautifully crafted scenes that capture the distance, anger, and confusion of a fragmenting family and souls in flux. [10/17 Jul 2015, p.101]

This season, "Rectify" does the impossible. It resolves the question of guilt or innocence in a way that is true to its own subtle perturbations. It deepens characters that are already complex, eliciting grudging sympathy for unappealing characters and disappointment in good ones. At the end, it perfectly balances hope and resignation, underscoring how fragile--and how essential--hope is. As in previous seasons, the writing, directing, and acting are uniformly superb, ontinued perfection. This show is a masterpiece. Every season feels just as powerful, poetic, and transformative as the previous almost as if they filmed it all at once. This is one the most well-crafted shows on television. The writers respect the characters in such profound ways. There is simply no other show like this on television.

All I can honestly say is, EMMY. When I saw "Better Call Saul" nominated bypassing Power, Banshee and Rectify, I knew politics and lobbying is everywhere. My biggest disappointment was only 6 episodes in season 3. However, the flashbacks, karma-induced accidents befalling characters that were "bad" or treated our character without empathy, to the initially presumed anti-hero becoming a fair, equitable and ethical human, this serious has superb, unpredictable story writing. The characters change, as do what their established behaviors were, or we thought. Daniel is either an Emmy winning actor, has the best lines ever written, a great ad-libber or all three. His combination of wit, depression, adolescence and thinking like Bobby Fisher moving through 10 men in Central Park, check-mate in 10 min each, is top-level acting on par with early James Spader in Boston Legal. Rectify takes the Emmy; Bloodline runner-up.

The pace is deliberate, and there aren’t the kind of laughs that other dramas employ as comic relief. But there’s real wit and propulsiveness in the storytelling Ray McKinnon does in this show.

Rectify is such a quiet, patient series that it takes awhile to realize how radical its storytelling is. Near the end of season two it seemed to rethink itself, and the first couple of episodes of season three suggest that the show is about to reinvent itself and shift its focus while trying to hold on to the qualities that made it so special--and frankly, peculiar.

The boldest new injection comes via flashback, a consistently and effectively utilized path into Daniel's headspace.

Rectify can be both hypnotic and heart-wrenching for viewers who have invested in these characters throughout the first two seasons. Season 1 remains the high point, though, and there doesn’t seem to be much time left to scale some of those peaks again.

More times than not, this loving obsession with the details of lower-middle-income life makes up for the show's competent but overly plain production design and cinematography. Even more so, the show's symbology is often breathtakingly simple yet resonant.

In my opinion, this is the most important show on American television. To explain why would give too much away. Season three is every bit as strong as the first two. Everything about the show is amazing.

I honestly did not believe that this show could carry the brilliance of prior seasons thruout the entirety of Season 3, but I was completely wrong. The acting, character development, writing, and cinematography in Season 3 surpassed the excellence of Seasons 1 and 2. The way some scenes were shot this season were absolutely, and I don't think I have ever used this word in a Metacritic review, breathtaking. If it goes another year without an Emmy nod of any sort i will be shocked. TEN, all the way.

Continued perfection. This show is a masterpiece. Every season feels just as powerful, poetic, and transformative as the previous almost as if they filmed it all at once. This is one the most well-crafted shows on television. The writers respect the characters in such profound ways. There is simply no other show like this on television. When will Emmy start noticing? Abigail Spencer deserves a nod for one scene she nails at a dollar store managers training. next week is the finale. Tonight's fifth episode was incredible! This is an essential show.

A couple of moments made me groan. There is a paint incident that just annoyed me to no end. The lead character kills me sometimes. There are some good points in the season, though...just enough to keep me watching.
