Flight is exciting - terrific, really - because in addition to the sophisticated storytelling techniques by which it keeps us hooked, it doesn't drag audience sympathies around by the nose, telling us what to think or how to judge the reckless, charismatic protagonist played by Denzel Washington.

One of the best movies about aviation. Everyone interested in aviation should watch this.

Flight is an incredibly underrated film that is rich with character drama. While the movie was marketed as a disaster flick (an enormous disservice) Flight is actually the harrowing tale of one man's struggle with alcoholism. Flight is a force to be reckoned with, and it is one of Denzel Washington's finest performances, up there with Training Day and Fences. Denzel fans need to check this out, as the man has some serious acting chops.

Slickly paced and carried by mature performances, Flight embodies one of the finer strains of Hollywood filmmaking in recent years.

It may not be frivolously engaging but it is compelling.

The film is not without flaws. It glosses over the story of the dissolution of Whitaker's marriage and does not delve deeply enough into the source of his problems with his son. A romance with recovering junkie Nicole (Kelly Reilly) rarely rings true.

A solid, often engrossing film that doesn't engage us overall the way Denzel Washington's work does.

Zemeckis intends to give us a slightly more depraved version of Washington's usual charismatic hero, then pull the rug out from him. But Flight's true downward spiral is its own loss of momentum.

This film is very good at character analysis and that it shows that things are not always what they seem to be with excellent performances from Denzel Washington. Flight is exciting - terrific, really - because in addition to the sophisticated storytelling techniques by which it keeps us hooked, it doesn't drag audience sympathies around by the nose, telling us what to think or how to judge the reckless, charismatic protagonist played by Denzel Washington.

Flight is a long movie and it unfortunately fails to hold by attention for the whole runtime. Denzel Washington is amazing and the production design is very good but the story falls flat on so many levels and nothing else in the movie manages to come close to the brilliant first act.

Washington is great and the film has strong scenes of addictive behaviour, but is also clumsily told at times.

Junkie airline pilot gets questioned after a fatal crash. 'Flight' is the wrong name here. This flick is NOT about flying. And the script has holes such as the pilot's co-pilot who would report the junkie, but turns religious and lets him off the hook. John Goodman gives a terrible performance as an enabler. Watch 'The Pilot' (1980), starring Cliff Robertson, instead.

I hate airplanes. This isn't scary because it happens. It happens rarely. When it does happen chaos happens. Ride at your own risk. Lesson learned. Denzel does a fine job at losing control when it's the appropriate time to. Made his millions.
