Amazon can delete books that you've purchased, and you'll no longer have access to them. While this is rare, it still happens. In 2009, copies of George Orwell's novel 1984 were deleted from users' Kindles because of rights issues, and it could happen again. Even worse, account bans from returning books can render your digital library useless.

A color e-ink tablet sounded like a dream come true until I actually used one

Brandon Miniman

Productivity

E-Ink

Amazon Kindle

Boox Note Air 4C

But the more I leaned into reading DRM-free EPUBs and personal PDFs, the more I ran into its limitations. The books were scattered across devices, stuck in formats Kindle doesn't support, and syncing anything outside Amazon's ecosystem felt like a chore.

I don't pay for books because these websites provide them for free

Chris Hachey

Productivity

Amazon Kindle

So why wouldn't you want to have the highest pixel density possible on your smartphone? Why, for example, shouldn't your device have as many pixels as your TV? For five years, from 2019 until 2023, Sony did just that with their flagship Xperia 1 series of phones, from the Xperia 1 until the Xperia 1 V (known as the "Xperia 1 mark-five"), which had a ridiculous and amazing 4K resolution in just a 6.5" display. That's right - 1644x3840 pixels, providing a crystal-clear and pin-sharp PPI of 643. Compared to other regular phones like the iPhone 17 Pro Max (460 PPI) or the Pixel 10 Pro (495 PPI), the Xperia 1 had 33% more pixels than most other flagship phones. That's a whopping 6.4 million pixels in the palm of your hand. Not only that, but the screen is OLED and 120Hz, making for truly the most stunning screen experience I've ever experienced. But is it overkill? Maybe, but for people who consume a lot of content, such as ebooks and videos, on their mobile, the Xperia 1 was shockingly amazing.

Amazon just added a controversial AI feature to the Kindle app

Dave Schafer

Productivity

Amazon Kindle

Ebooks
