THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Lighting Estimator at Eos Lightmedia is responsible for leading the development of accurate, competitive, and commercially strategic estimates and proposals for complex lighting systems and related services. This role requires the ability to evaluate technical requirements, define scope, identify risk, and drive competitive positioning for project opportunities across a variety of markets.
Working collaboratively with leadership, design, engineering, and project teams, the Senior Lighting Estimator helps shape bid strategies, develop pricing models, and ensure proposals align with client expectations, company standards, and long-term business objectives. This position plays a key role in influencing project pursuit decisions, maintaining vendor relationships, performing peer reviews and QA/QC of bids and estimates, and contributing to the continuous improvement of company-wide estimating practices.
Position Description
Reporting to the Director of Special Projects, the Senior Lighting Estimator will focus on six core areas:
Bid Strategy, Preparation, and Revision
Lead the review and interpretation of complex technical documentation, drawings, and RFPs
Collaborate with Sales and leadership to develop bid strategies and win themes
Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for materials, equipment, labor, professional services, and implementation
Identify, quantify, and mitigate commercial and technical risks; build contingencies into estimates
Source pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive, accurate, and timely proposals
Evaluate completeness of bid packages, manage scope gaps, and ensure compliance with client requirements
Lead or participate in pre-bid meetings and project scoping sessions
Support Sales and Project Management during bid reviews, clarifications, negotiations, and handoffs
Collaborate with Marketing to produce qualification packages, capability statements, and supporting materials
Deliver high-quality, compliant proposals within strict deadlines
Prepare conceptual budgets, ROMs, and allowances for incomplete or early-stage design packages
Lead Value Engineering exercises to balance cost, performance, and design intent
Coordinate closely with Design and Engineering to ensure alignment between technical scope and cost
Provide guidance on estimating standards, tools, and processes across departments
Perform quality control and assurance reviews of bids and estimates completed by other estimators
Lighting Estimation and Technical Expertise
Develop complete Bill of Materials (BOM) from drawings, specifications, and project narratives
Perform detailed takeoffs of fixtures, accessories, controls, and supporting infrastructure
Prepare and issue RFQs to manufacturers, suppliers, and representatives; evaluate responses
Interpret control narratives, integration requirements, and system intent
Estimate labor requirements for installation, commissioning, programming, and focus
Provide technical assistance and cost insight during design development, value engineering, and procurement
Project and Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with internal stakeholders to gather information, define scope, and align expectations
Provide comprehensive bid handoffs and contextual documentation to PM, engineering, and operations teams
Work within interdisciplinary project teams including architects, lighting designers, engineers, fabricators, and software developers
Contribute to project transition planning, schedule development, and procurement strategies when required.
Market and Competitive Analysis
Conduct market research to maintain current, competitive benchmarks for equipment and services
Analyze competitive landscape, pricing trends, procurement climates, and emerging technologies
Provide leadership with insights and recommendations to support bid/no-bid decisions and pursuit strategies
Relationship Development
Maintain strong relationships with manufacturers, vendors, reps, subcontractors, and clients
Evaluate vendor capabilities, negotiate pricing, and support long-term procurement strategy
Represent Eos professionally at industry events, trade shows, and meetings
Leadership, Training, and Organizational Development
Act as a subject-matter expert and mentor to junior team members in estimating methodology
Contribute to the development of standardized estimating tools, templates, and processes
Support continuous improvement initiatives that drive efficiency, accuracy, and profitability
Pursue ongoing education and professional development, including relevant certifications and industry credentials
Requirements
10+ years of experience in estimating, budgeting, and bid management within the electrical, lighting, or AV industry, ideally within permanent themed environments such as museums, themed attractions, immersive environments, and experiential retail
Formal education is an asset
Deep understanding of lighting system design, installation, controls, and commissioning
Experience with audiovisual integration and related processes; this experience is considered a strong asset
Strong understanding of design-build workflows, construction processes, and full project lifecycles
Advanced proficiency with productivity suites such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, with particular strength in spreadsheets, financial modeling, and reporting
Strong competency with ERP, CRM, and bid management platforms
Working knowledge of electrical, lighting, and audiovisual systems and components
Strong commercial acumen, analytical thinking, and strategic decision-making capability
