A growing, mission-driven Federally Qualified Health Center in Arizona is seeking a strategic and community-oriented Chief Medical Officer (Primary Care) to help shape the next chapter of its evolution.
This FQHC was founded as a civil rights organization and has grown its service lines to include primary care, dental services, and mobile outreach programs.
With 6 established locations and 3 additional sites preparing to open, they are thoughtfully continuing to expand their primary care footprint by prioritizing sustainable growth, quality outcomes, and strong provider culture over rapid scale.
This is an opportunity to step into a visible executive leadership role at a pivotal moment where your clinical leadership, operational insight, and commitment to health equity will directly influence community impact.
The Role of the CMO
Build Something That Lasts
Oversee a team of approximately 7 primary care clinicians today, with expanding scope and complexity as new sites open. This is not maintenance leadership, it’s foundational leadership.
Shape Clinical Excellence from the Ground Up
Drive quality metrics, care model design, provider engagement, and value-based performance within an FQHC environment.
Sustainable, Thoughtful Growth
Leadership is committed to expanding responsibly ensuring infrastructure, culture, and quality keep pace with growth.
Executive Influence
Partner directly with the CEO and executive team to align clinical strategy with organizational goals, payer relationships, and long-term community impact.
Mission at the Core
Serve vulnerable populations with a deep respect for human dignity. This role requires a leader who believes healthcare is a calling not just a job.
The Opportunity
The Chief Medical Officer will:
Provide strategic and operational oversight of primary care services across multiple sites
Lead quality improvement initiatives and drive measurable outcomes
Mentor, develop, and recruit mission-aligned clinicians
Strengthen integration between behavioral health and primary care services
Support sustainable growth initiatives, including new site openings
Ensure regulatory compliance within the FQHC model
Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, and compassion
This role will begin with oversight of a manageable team and expand in scope as additional clinics open offering increasing leadership complexity and strategic influence over time.
The Ideal Candidate
MD or DO with board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
Experience within an FQHC or community health setting preferred
Demonstrated success leading providers and improving quality metrics
A builder’s mindset energized by growth and systems development
Passion for serving underserved populations
Deep belief in equity, access, and the dignity of every patient
Who Thrives Here
This role is ideal for a physician executive who:
Wants to move from maintaining systems to building them
Finds purpose in community-based care
Is energized by mentorship and team development
Balances strategy with hands-on leadership
Sees growth as an opportunity to elevate standards, not dilute them
If you are a mission-driven physician leader ready to help shape sustainable expansion while improving access and quality for underserved communities in Arizona, I would welcome a confidential conversation.
