Hey Product Marketers — if your resume isn’t getting interviews, it’s probably not a talent problem. It’s a positioning problem. I’ve reviewed the resumes of some friends and former colleagues lately, and the patterns are consistent. The good news? Most issues are fixable. Before you apply again, pressure-test your resume against this checklist: 1. Identity matters more than keywords If I can swap your name with another PMM’s and nothing changes, you don’t have an identity yet. Be clear about what kind of PMM you are. 2. Brevity is a skill test Our job is turning complexity into clarity. 1–2 pages is fine — but every bullet should earn its place. 3. Show leverage, not just outcomes “Increased pipeline by 60%” isn’t the point. What did you own? Where did you apply pressure — narrative, positioning, competitive strategy, GTM, enablement? 4. Be explicit about your buyer Executives, practitioners, enterprises, SMBs — strong PMMs make this obvious. 5. Leaders: show how you unlocked people If you manage PMMs, show how you raised the bar: systems, frameworks, coaching — not just team results. 6. Make unrelated experience relevant — or cut it If you can’t explain why it matters to PMM, it probably doesn’t belong. A strong PMM resume should answer one question fast: “If we drop this person into our business, where do they create lift first?” If you’re employed, write your resume as if you had to apply tomorrow. If the work you’re doing isn’t compelling on paper, that’s a signal worth paying attention to. The more you know… 💫
