The Home Depot Foundation works to improve the homes and lives of U.S. veterans, train skilled tradespeople to fill the labor gap and support communities impacted by natural disasters. Since 2011, the Foundation has invested more than $500M in veteran causes and improved more than 60,000 veteran homes and facilities. The Foundation has pledged to invest $750M in veteran causes by 2030 and $50 million in training the next generation of skilled tradespeople through the Path to Pro program.

A few months ago, I was in a conversation with a leading retail luxury brand that had everything figured out: great product, slick website, and solid foot traffic. But they had one problem they couldn't crack. Their customers weren't coming back. Not because the experience was bad. But because once the transaction ended, the relationship ended. No touchpoint. No reason to return. The brand was present for exactly four minutes at checkout and then disappeared. That conversation stuck with me. It's why one of the things I've been most excited about at Fynd is not just helping brands sell, but helping them build relationships that outlast the transaction. We've spent over a decade building the rails of modern commerce. But infrastructure alone doesn't retain customers. Engagement does. So when Todd asked me to have a look at Litecard (Connected Commerce across Apple and Google Wallets) and when I first saw what Brian and the team were building, I knew we had to work together. Litecard does something deceptively simple but incredibly powerful. They put your brand inside your customer's Apple or Google Wallet, right next to their boarding passes and bank cards. A loyalty card. A membership. A personalised offer. Triggered by time, location, or a transaction. No app download. No friction. Just presence, at exactly the right moment. Combined with Fynd, the loop is now fully closed. A customer walks into a store, checks out on Fynd POS, and within seconds has a digital membership card in their wallet. Next time they're nearby, they get a push notification with a reason to come back in. The associate who sold to them remotely on WhatsApp? That sale also triggered a loyalty pass. Every touchpoint is connected. This is what I mean when I talk about connected commerce. Not just connecting systems, but connecting moments in a customer's life to a brand they trust. In early 2025, Amazon raised its U.S. online prices by 12.8%. This is a big change for a company known for offering low prices. Walmart and Target also raised prices, but only by about 5.3% and 5.5%. The main reason for Amazon’s larger increase is new U.S. tariffs on many Chinese goods, some as high as 145%. Also, the rule that allowed small shipments under $800 to enter duty-free was removed, making prices go up for almost all imports. These changes mean American consumers are paying more for everyday items like clothes (up 11.5%) and home goods (up 10.8%). This is squeezing family budgets and making more people look for better deals. Because Walmart and Target raised prices less, many shoppers are turning to them for better value. Walmart’s size lets it absorb more cost, while Amazon’s sellers—many depending on Chinese imports—are facing bigger price pressures and smaller profits. This has changed where people shop and how retailers compete. Walmart and Target are gaining online traffic, while Amazon still grows but with different challenges. Retailers are also changing their supply chains, sourcing more from countries like Vietnam, India, and Mexico to lower risks and costs. In a time of rising costs, consumers want the best price and convenience. In 2025, retailer brands hit record sales and outgrow big brands. Shoppers want good value and good quality, and retailers now offer premium and functional options too. Where it’s already mainstream: -United States. Retailer brands grew +3.7% vs +1.1% for national brands. Sales are close to $280B , a record. For many shoppers, own brands are the default. -United Kingdom. Own-label share stayed near parity with brands (about 47–52%). Premium private label is growing fast. -Western Europe. In several countries, private label is over 40% of category sales. It’s part of the regular basket. Where it’s growing up: -Asia–Pacific. 54% of consumers say they now buy private label more often (leaders: Thailand, India, China, Indonesia). People see it as “good enough quality at a fair price.” -Latin America. Share is lower than in Europe, but growth is faster than the global market. Big room to grow, especially for discounters and club formats. Where it’s still early: Middle East & Africa. In many countries, share is still under 2%, but momentum is building as modern retail expands and shoppers seek affordability. Why this is happening: -Value without trade-offs. Most shoppers see private label as “good value for money” and a real alternative to brands. The stigma is fading. -Retailer strategy. Big chains launch premium lines (chef-inspired, plant-based, “made without”). Own brands are about innovation, not just low price. -Promo reality. Brands overuse discounts. Retailers push their own labels smartly, earning margin and loyalty, so private label keeps its share. What manufacturers should do (5 quick moves): 1) Rebuild the portfolio for profitable volume. Cut the long tail. Put money on your #1–2 brands and best-margin SKUs. EY State of Consumer Products 2025 says companies that simplify portfolios and focus win more. (EY) 2) Innovate for clear, simple benefits. No “just another flavor.” Make health-led products (high protein, no sugar, clean label) and easy formats. PwC Voice of the Consumer 2025 shows health benefits are a top reason people switch food brands. (PwC) 3) Co-create with retailers, not just ask for shelf space. Bring a category growth plan, exclusive packs, and retail-media tests with incrementality. Deloitte 2025 Consumer Products Outlook urges precision growth (balance price-volume-mix and smarter demand gen). (Deloitte) 4) Run price–pack–promo with hard measurement. Use RGM: targeted promos, MMM, and receipt data to prove lift vs. private label. Deloitte 2025 Outlook calls for profitable growth levers, not blanket discounting. (Deloitte Insights) 5) Tighten operations and cost-to-serve with data/AI. Make the supply chain transparent, cut waste, and free margin to reinvest.
