Advice for aspiring social media managers... Follow "boring" brands. Seriously, Duolingo, Wendy's, and Liquid Death are all AMAZING, but chances are your first social media job won't be making brain rot content or clapback replies. It's far more likely you'll be working on accounts for small B2B start-ups, healthcare, real estate, or something similar. Seek out accounts in those industries. See what they are doing, who's doing it well, and what room you might have to innovate there. It might not be as fun as working on an edgier brand, but if you can help a "boring" brand achieve their goals, it's only a matter of time before you find yourself moving up.

See what they are doing, who's doing it well, and what room you might have to innovate there. It might not be as fun as working on an edgier brand, but if you can help a "boring" brand achieve their goals, it's only a matter of time before you find yourself moving up and getting to push the envelope a bit. I worked for YEARS working on social media accounts for universities and government agencies before I had an opportunity to work on edgier and larger accounts like those for INVINCIBLE, HAZBIN HOTEL, and other entertainment properties. And honestly? I would never had been ready for that until I had put in my time on the more standard accounts and that experience made me a better social media manager. So, if you are newer or aspiring social media manager, my advice is to embrace the fundamentals first. You'll be better off in the long run for it.

This means your Instagram content can now show up in search results. Not just in the app, but on Google. It’s a big shift for visibility. But only if you’re ready for it. Here’s how to take advantage: ✅ Write clear, keyword-friendly captions Avoid vague or clever phrasing. Use the words your audience would actually search. ✅ Use descriptive alt text Help Google understand what your content is about. Especially for Reels and carousels. ✅ Check your profile settings Make sure your content is public and searchable. SEO is no longer just for websites.
