DEI in 2024 – and what’s changed since 2020
Workable Resources
See publicationIn late 2020, we surveyed professionals around the world to get a better understanding of where DEI stands in companies, what the priorities are at this point in time, the subsequent action items and goals, and the challenges that hinder DEI progress. Nearly 800 completed the survey.

From all this, we’ve collected fresh data insights for you in a new survey report. -

Mental Health in the Workplace: 2022 Worker Survey
Workable Resources
See publicationThe past couple of years have been brutal on the collective health of society. We’ve shared in the grief of loss – not only of lives, but life as we knew it: the normalcy and routine and familiarity. It’s all been taxing, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

We’ve shared in the grief of loss – not only of lives, but life as we knew it: the normalcy and routine and familiarity. It’s all been taxing, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
In the middle of all of this is that mental health, once heavily stigmatized and a no-go topic, is growing in the everyday zeitgeist. Taking a “mental health day” has evolved from a glib tongue-in-cheek comment to a respected and even supported option in many workplaces. To say “I’m not OK today” is more OK today than it was in the past.
This new reality isn’t lost on employers, with a January 2022 survey showing that it’s a top priority for businesses this year. That same study, however, finds that half of the respondents have yet to establish a mental health strategy in their company.
You need your people to be healthy if you want to keep your business engine running smoothly. We’re well aware of this at Workable, and we want to help you – the employer – gain better insight into the mental health conversation so you can build your talent attraction strategy and strengthen the morale and wellness of your employees.
So, we surveyed more than 1,300 people to understand what mental health in the workplace looks like and what it means to them. And we now have plenty of data to share with you. -
From 98% men to 55% women: 5 tips for gender diversity in tech sales
Workable Resources
See publication“My experience up until that point in sales and in tech sales was that it’s been a heavy imbalance of males to females," says Rachel Bates, SVP of Sales & Marketing at Workable. "When I was looking for a job, I had had interviews for sales leadership roles all around Boston and I counted that I actually met with 50 people, 49 of which were men.”
When 98% of the decision makers you come face to face with in the job hunt are men, that’s an embarrassingly telling statistic. -
New possibilities for Pattullo Bridge
24 hours Vancouver
See publication24 hours columnist Daniel Fontaine and I met for a coffee one day and we both decided we needed to open avenues for discussion on what we can do with the existing Pattullo Bridge instead of tearing the whole thing down.
The result was the successful Pattullo Bridge Community Forum which took place June 6, 2012, and our extensive package in 24 hours Vancouver the previous week. This is my article on the topic. -
Vancouver Needs a Brooklyn, and New West Could Be It
The Tyee
See publicationIn a discussion with Tyee editor-in-chief David Beers several months ago, it occurred to us that New Westminster could well be comparable to Brooklyn in that it serves as a creative hub for young professionals driven out of Vancouver and Manhattan's towering real-estate prices.

The project climaxed with 100+ participants attending a communtiy forum at the New Westminster River Market in the La Perle Ballroom on June 6, 2012, with three urban experts making presentations on what they thought could be done.
The result was, in part, Minister of Transportation Blair Lekstrom, New West Mayor Wayne Wright, and other members of NW council agreeing to open discussion on the project again: http://www.newwestnewsleader.com/news/159634045.html

The program took a three-pronged approach towards overall sustainability through local job and business development, environmental awareness and retaining youth talent within the country.
This program had several major partners actively taking part: International Centre for Sustainable Cities (now Sustainable Cities International), Simon Fraser University’s Co-operative Education Program and the Environmental Youth Alliance.
An exploratory trip to Ukraine took place in December 2003 where we met with local officials and secured their interest in the program, and a final report and updated proposal were sent to Canadian International Development Agency in 2005.Other creators
