Telesurgery is not a new concept for Intuitive. Our story began 25 years ago with Brian Miller, our chief digital officer. He was an engineer on the Lindbergh operation, in which French surgeons in New York operated on a patient in Strasbourg, France. It was the first successful tele-surgical operation in medical history. Which is just to say: We have always believed in bridging the gap between distance and connection. That’s why we’ve spent more than a decade developing and maturing telecollaboration tools. Teleproctoring, telementoring, dual console surgery—these aren’t just technologies. They’re opportunities to transform care for patients. The world is full of human ingenuity and life-altering technology. But access is inequitable. At Intuitive, we strive to increase access to minimally invasive surgery across the globe. We strive for better use of surgeon and trainer time. And to extend expert care to underserved areas. Simply put, we strive to make the world a better place. Exciting update in the interventional imaging world today with Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute / Lehigh Valley Health Network implementing the first U.S. use-case of GE HealthCare’s 3DStent technology in their cath lab. The software works with #Allia Image Guiding Systems (IGS) to enable intuitive, three-dimensional stent imaging with no additional contrast media, no additional devices needed for imaging, and zero additional procedural costs – all during intervention and without having to move the patient. This can help to lead to greater diagnostic confidence and ideally better patient outcomes during intervention.
