The gauge to assess a strong Project Manager should include: - The ability to lead under pressure - The capacity to foster collaboration among diverse teams - The skill to earn trust, solve real problems, and deliver results This distinction separates merely checking boxes from creating impact. Project management is not about striving for perfection; it’s about adaptability and the leadership necessary to guide a team toward success. When the stakes are high, credentials, certifications, or flawless documentation take a backseat. What truly matters is having someone on our teams who can GET IT DONE!!

Not every successful project ends in delivery; some end in a well-informed decision not to proceed or take a pause. ✅We often view success through the lens of go-lives, deployments, or completed deliverables. But as BAs, our role starts much earlier in discovery, in asking the right questions, and in uncovering whether a project is even worth pursuing. ✅Sometimes, during that early analysis, we identify, misalignment, unclear value, or risks that outweigh the benefits. And in those moments, saying no, stopping or taking a pause is not failure. It’s wisdom. It’s strategy. It’s success. 💡It takes courage to communicate that a project may not be viable, especially when expectations are already building. How to nail your enterprise project planning phase: (even if you've never led an enterprise project) 1. Read all info gathered through governance 2. Meet with your sponsor one-on-one 3. Ask her/him to give you their definition of success 4. Assemble your list of required resources 5. Meet informally with your project team... - this is the 'the meeting before the meeting' - introduce yourself, tell them your role as the PM - explain what you know about the project - assume no one knows anything at this point - ask each of them to explain their role - ask them whether anyone (any role) is missing 7. Figure out key stakeholders based on No. 1, 2, 5 6. Schedule the project kickoff call 7. Meet with key stakeholders before, and do step 3 8. Hold the kickoff call... - For questions you expect, preempt them - For questions you didn't expect, answer them - Say "I don't know, but I'll follow up," for all others 9. Capture the follow-ups as scheduled tasks (project schedule) or actions/issues (RAID log)—see next ↓ 10. Create your digital project workspace 11. Share the workspace broadly with the team 12.
