After four months, I’ve officially finished my internship with
The Crosses!
It’s slightly hard to sum up everything I’ve worked on since joining the team in June because no two weeks really looked the same. Over the last four months, I’ve worked across projects in arts, culture and education, with research taking me everywhere from Qatar and Uzbekistan to countries and institutions I honestly knew very little about before this summer.
Some of that work included building a cultural events resource covering 80+ countries, researching more than 200 schools, universities and creative institutions, contributing to a media database of over 2,000 contacts, and doing a LOT of research and spreadsheets along the way.
I also got to work on media monitoring and reporting, journalist and publication research, educational benchmarking, client-facing research, and projects connected to Qatar, Uzbekistan and UNESCO.
My internship was originally meant to finish at the end of July, but I was lucky enough to extend my time with the team through September, which meant I could continue working on some of the larger projects I’d already become involved in and help with new ones as they came along.
I came into this internship with much less experience in Public Relations specifically than in other areas of communications, so getting to see that side of the industry up close was probably one of the most valuable parts for me. I learned a lot about the research and preparation behind PR work, from building media lists and monitoring coverage to understanding different publications, journalists and international media landscapes.
I also really enjoyed how much I got to learn about things I probably never would have come across otherwise. One day I’d be researching a cultural festival in Central Asia, the next I’d be looking through creative schools and alternative education programmes, and then I’d be tracking down media contacts in a completely different part of the world.
A massive thank you to Adnan Abassi and
Jakub Dabrowski for all of the guidance, trust and opportunities over the last four months, and to everyone at The Crosses for making me feel so welcome. I’m really grateful I got the chance to stay longer than originally planned and contribute to so many different projects.
Couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend my final university summer, and I am so excited to apply this knowledge to my final term and future work experience!
