What do you do when you’re 30, with 3 young kids?  “Start a home care agency.” Here are some highlights from a recent episode of Home Care Strategy Lab with Kelly Adams, owner of Beyond Home Care LLC in Alexander City, Alabama. · Operating in Alabama's unregulated environment, she built a small and scrappy yet incredibly intentional agency in her rural community. · Kelly formed her own "table" of trusted partners: including primary care physicians, families, home health, and hospice. · True partnership involves both referring to and receiving referrals. Home care needs to be reciprocal in sending referrals. · She put on community events and invited senior care experts and involved parties to participate in panel discussion for families and seniors in her community—resulting in brand awareness, community credibility, and trust from local partners. 🔬 She also shared her formula for becoming an aging authority in her market: G.A.P.S 🔎 Get Curious: Proactively learn about healthcare systems and disease processes. ❓ Ask Better Questions: Don't hesitate to seek clarification and understand the "why" behind client changes. 🤝 Position Yourself as a Resource: Go beyond being a vendor; understand your community's resources and processes. 🚘 Show Up: Be present, educate, advocate, and be available. If you don't know something, admit it and commit to finding the answer. Kelly's passion for education extends beyond her local market. She developed the Aging Parent Blueprint, an online program for families—and now she’s sharing it and coaching around it to other home care teams. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services today announced students across North Carolina will soon have access to high-quality, virtual mental health care through Hazel Health. This initiative, supported through an investment by UnitedHealthcare, is part of a broader effort announced last year to provide virtual school-centered mental health care for up to one million students across select states nationwide. School-based healthcare is essential to removing obstacles to care, such as transportation and time limitations, to allow for early identification and treatment of behavioral conditions for children of all ages.
