DAD26 is officially behind us. What started as an observance became something much more interesting over the last 57 days: an opportunity to look across different methodologies, thinkers, and approaches and see the discipline of Decision Architecture taking shape from many different angles. I'm carrying that learning directly into the next phase of ClarArc. Gate is next. And I'm increasingly interested in attracting people who want to get inside this work—not simply work at a startup, but help study, challenge, refine, and advance the practice of Decision Architecture. More to come.

Eleven years ago we published The Real Startup Book, a free and open field guide to the experiments founders actually run to find product/market fit. Today the second edition is live and free to read. Here is the one line I would underline for anyone building with AI right now: AI changed the cost of running an experiment, not which experiment to run. You can stand up a smoke test in an afternoon now instead of a week. You can summarize thirty interviews in minutes. That part is real. But AI will also happily run the wrong experiment ten times faster than you could before, and hand you a beautifully formatted report on it. So the second edition keeps the field-tested methods and annotates each one for the AI era: where AI genuinely makes the work better, and where it just helps you fool yourself faster. Plus nearly 30 new methods (disposable MVPs, synthetic persona screening, and more). Sixty-plus methods. Eleven years. Still free. https://lnkd.in/gcU5DScR

Doing Discovery Pro Tip: "Why" Questions Drive the Conversation Upwards And help uncover Critical Business Issues! True story: I asked a sales manager, “What’s the biggest challenge you face in your job today?” He responded, “We need more good leads.” “And why is that important?” I queried. He replied, “Without good leads we don’t have enough opportunities to pursue.” “I understand,” I said, “and you are not alone…! But tell me, why is that an issue? What happens if you don’t have enough opportunities?” He grimaced, slightly, and said, “Well, without enough good opportunities, we won’t hit our numbers…” “Uh huh,” I responded, “So the main challenge for you is achieving your numbers: making quota. Is that right?” “Oh!” he exclaimed, “Exactly!” In discovery, “Why” questions drive the conversation upwards, towards uncovering Critical Business Issues (goals and objectives), as opposed to drilling downwards into more detail. You’ll find more on using “Why” questions starting on page 180 in “Doing Discovery” – enjoy! https://lnkd.in/eqGJs3hK

"Ran out of cash" is cited in 70% of startup shutdowns (CB Insights, 2026) — but almost none of them were tracking which products were their Cash Cows and which were Dogs. Portfolio discipline catches this earlier. The BCG Matrix, developed at Boston Consulting Group and popularized by Bruce Henderson in 1970, remains one of the clearest ways to answer a deceptively simple question: which of your products are funding the business, and which are consuming it without return? We put together a full breakdown of the framework, the real (and often mis-credited) history, the four quadrants, applied examples across Apple, Google, and Amazon, and a free interactive tool to plot your own portfolio. In stable times, caution looks smart. In 2026? Caution looks like irrelevance. The truth is: You’re not competing on product anymore. You’re competing on speed. How fast can your teams act on a signal? How fast can you shift when the model breaks? How fast can value move across your organization? If your people still need permission to move… If your decisions still crawl through committees… You’ve already lost to someone who doesn’t wait. In a disruption-driven world, slow is broken. Leadership isn’t about holding the reins tighter. It’s about removing the friction that stops motion. New reality: Speed is your moat. Agility is your strategy. Flow is your edge. Ask yourself: Where in your company are people still waiting for approval… ...instead of creating momentum? #Leadership #Transformation #Agility #FutureOfWork #OrganizationalDesign #Speed #SalimIsmail

As enterprises adopt artificial intelligence to improve their scalability, performance, and profitability, how should they adapt their measurement systems? How should the Board and Senior Management Teams reorient themselves to think about the metrics they must consider beyond Financial ROI? This short video introduces the challenge and McKinsey's measurement framework — the five layers for measuring AI business impact, from the model's technical health to bottom-line enterprise results. Please watch and respond with your comments based on your experience in infusing AI in your business models. For socially-oriented organizations, the Layer 1 must be adapted to add impact metrics, in addition to the financial metrics (which would be essential health metrics such as cash for sustained operations). https://lnkd.in/gNWBipXr #InnovationScaleupAdvisors #AIInfusion

A business case can be precise and still be misleading. That happens when the numbers look disciplined, but the underlying uncertainty is treated as if it has already been resolved. In early-stage innovation, the business case isn't just a justification document. It's a learning tool. The more useful question isn't, “Can we make the forecast more exact?” It's, “Which assumptions matter most, and what would we need to learn next?” That shift changes the work. Teams stop defending a plan and start focusing experiments on the uncertainties that can actually change the value of the opportunity. Innovation Navigator® is about the learning loops. https://bit.ly/4wTajsJ
