Sam Cooper liked thisSam Cooper liked this#BrainyFredTeam 👨🏻💼 Meet Ken Shuck, Strategic Advisor at BrainyFred, a kids’ mobile RPG for social-emotional learning and mental health. For more than 20 years, Ken has helped turn ambitious game ideas into global, long-running products. His career spans senior roles at Electronic Arts, BioWare, Mythic Entertainment, and Zynga, bringing together creative production, technology, operations, finance, and the people behind the games. As Senior Vice President at Zynga, he oversaw more than 700 people across studios in the UK, Turkey, and India. His portfolio included titles such as Merge Dragons!, FarmVille 3, and CSR 2, alongside cross-platform projects including Star Wars: Hunters. At Electronic Arts, he served as COO and Head of Production at Red Crow Studio, the one behind The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Ken’s connection to BrainyFred goes beyond his professional experience. As a father of seven, he has seen firsthand how growing up has changed and the challenges children face today. That perspective makes our mission particularly meaningful to him. At BrainyFred, Ken brings a practical understanding of what it takes to navigate the complexities of making a game while protecting its creative vision. For him, this is an opportunity to help create something that matters to children and their families. “I really like the idea of a game world that can benefit a child’s well-being and hopefully strengthen the connection between them and their parents.” 👉🏻 Read about Ken on page 43 of the print edition of BrainyFerrets Magazine, available online: https://lnkd.in/dDnbQDxs

Sam Cooper liked thisEnd of an Era Congratulations to all the teams, internal and external, who brought Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to this day - from the studios and publishing teams to the agencies and creative partners. Having been part of every premium Call of Duty game launch, it was a unique privilege to experience this final title I worked on from two perspectives: on the inside during early planning and development, and from the outside, watching it reach players around the world. I couldn’t be prouder of the people behind it. It feels almost poignant that as the Modern Warfare series reaches its close, so does my own era at Activision. Over two decades, I had the extraordinary fortune of sitting front row as interactive entertainment transformed - from the rise of Call of Duty, to the music gaming phenomenon of Guitar Hero, the magic of Skylanders bringing toys to life, and SO much more. We’re at another transformational moment, with technology opening doors to possibilities we have yet to imagine. What looks like the end of the caterpillar is really the beginning of the butterfly. Did the caterpillar dream it would one day fly? I’m excited for the next wave of dreamers and creators in gaming. I’m equally excited for the blank page in front of me and the opportunity I’ve had to sketch what comes next. More to share when the time is right. For now, I’m grateful for the extraordinary journey and the people who made it what it was. #Gaming #Activision #CallofDuty

Sam Cooper liked thisSam Cooper liked thisWhen I posted about my retirement 5 weeks ago, I mentioned that I would jump back on LinkedIn and share what I decided to do with myself post T2/Zynga as I figured it out. Well, I have signed up for my first gig and am excited to share that I have joined BrainyFred as a Strategic Advisor! Sergii Rybak and the talented team that he has assembled shared with me their vision to develop an engaging game that would support children's social-emotional learning, provide parents with more insights into their children's feelings and challenges, and ultimately build stronger relationships between children and parents. As a parent of 7 children and a a game maker, their mission and passion for making it a reality completely resonated with me. I'm looking forward to supporting the team in the development and live operations of this amazing game and getting it into the hands of children to experience!

Sam Cooper liked thisSam Cooper liked thisHey everyone, I just wanted to share that I have recently made the decision to retire from Zynga/Take Two. I feel incredibly lucky to have worked at two of the best game companies in the world over my 20+ year career in the industry (EA and Zynga/Take Two) and to have worked with so many talented and passionate co-workers. Their camaraderie and support has definitely sustained me through all of the ups and downs that you inevitably will have in the pursuit of making great games. I wish I could thank you all personally, but there are just too many. From the beginning, I have been blessed with the best mentors that I could have asked for….each of them taught me different things along the way that have helped me be successful. I am forever grateful to Steven Chiang and Philip Holt from my EA Tiburon days, Rob Denton at Mythic/EA, Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk at Bioware, and last but certainly not least Frank Gibeau and Matthew Bromberg at EA and Zynga. The question that I have heard the most over the past few weeks has been “So what are you going to do next?”. In honesty, I have no idea. I have been working for 35+ years straight at this point (game development was actually my 2nd career) so it’s a bit surreal and exciting to have this much space to contemplate. I have considered a whole lot of ideas from taking up my hobbies full-time and driving my wife and kids insane with all of my free time to finding another job in the game industry. Somewhere in the middle sits the possibilities of doing some sort of part-time consulting or fractional COO work. I would also love to advise and support early stage/startup game companies in some way and share any of my experience and knowledge that could help put them on the path to success. When I figure out the answer, maybe I will come back here and let you know. In the meantime, thanks again to everyone who has been part of the adventure! Picture of my wife and I celebrating retirement with a recent trip to Italy that we have always wanted to make....

Take-Two Interactive is using some AI tools in areas of its business that aren’t creative, but the company is not looking to use those tools to replace any staff, CEO Strauss Zelnick said during Take-Two’s November earnings call. “I think there are plenty of areas of business where the tools we have rolled out at the enterprise are helping us. We are not either using this as an excuse to, or frankly seeing the opportunity to, reduce headcount,” Zelnick said on the call, answering a question about how Take-Two has rolled out AI tools in the non-creative areas of its business. “We are seeing this as an opportunity to take our very talented people and release them from more mundane tasks so ...

Zynga founder Mark Pincus revealed that the company had a handshake deal to acquire Supercell for $400 million in 2012, but Zynga's board rejected it. Speaking on the Deconstructor of Fun podcast, Pincus said Zynga was watching Supercell as Hay Day and Clash of Clans took off. "Hay Day was eating our lunch," Pincus said. “We were all obsessed with their games and didn’t buy them.” Pincus also argued that the industry still lacks the ambition and innovation needed to build Western games companies at massive scale, saying, "there’s just no fucking vision in the industry, there’s no innovation, they're all just playing defense." https://lnkd.in/eMme3B_w

EXCLUSIVE: Just moments ago, GamesBeat ’s Alexander Lee sat down with Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive—the company behind what is poised to be one of the biggest launches in entertainment history—for an exclusive conversation at GamesBeat's premiere New York Insider event, Brands & Games presented by Overwolf. Zelnick tackles the question investors and the industry are asking about #GTAVI: Why spend money marketing a game everyone already knows? “Obviously everyone’s heard of Grand Theft Auto VI. So why are you wasting money on marketing? Shouldn’t you just put it out there?” Zelnick explains why GTA VI still needs authentic marketing, what Take-Two learned from #Barbie, and why Rockstar’s 27-minute Netflix gameplay presentation was more than just a trailer. But the conversation goes much deeper: it’s a masterclass in how to understand consumers, build excitement, choose platforms, and launch a product successfully. The bigger takeaway: gaming strategy is business strategy. Know your consumer—and who isn’t your consumer. Understand why people who should know about your product don’t. Adapt to how consumers engage with content. And Strauss reminds business leaders: product alone isn’t enough. Dean Takahashi covers the exclusive GamesBeat interview: https://lnkd.in/gPCdhE-p Full video of the exclusive conversation will be available to stream on #GBMAX: https://lnkd.in/gkSF6hG2

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, says he doesn’t play video games — including his company’s flagship titles. The comment is raising questions about the role of domain expertise in executive leadership. Read the article and consider: can a strong strategic perspective outweigh hands-on product experience? https://wix.to/AyQuM70 #Leadership #Management #GamingIndustry #GTA6 #GTA #TakeTwo #Gaming

🎉 We’re thrilled to share Dr. Luke Dicken is joining Layer's Board of Advisors. Luke was building game AI before it was cool, literally. His PhD dissertation had to be called "Simulated Virtual Worlds" because his university wasn't ready to put "Games" on a doctoral diploma. Since then: a decade shaping AI at Zynga, Head of AI at Take-Two Interactive, seven years as Chair of the IGDA Foundation. Four degrees in AI. A career defined by building what actually works, not what sounds impressive. He joins us at the perfect moment. Layer is moving beyond the hype — focused on bringing real, measurable results to game studios across production, live ops, and user acquisition. Luke's perspective on where AI genuinely moves the needle (and where it doesn't) is exactly what we need as we scale. We're aligned on something we believe deeply: the studios that win won't be the ones who jumped on AI first. They'll be the ones who used it smartest. Honored to have him in our corner. More to come. 👊

The CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, has said that it would be "unfair" to have in-game adverts within premium titles. The exec also addressed his company's reliance on the US for revenue (something that he believes will drastically change in the next decade) as well as the investor reaction to Google's Project Genie AI tool https://lnkd.in/e3Ue3aU9
