🌀 With a cyclone forecast to hit Queensland, it’s a good reminder to check your high availability and disaster recovery plans. Use cloud and never have outages? As solutions architects it's important to be careful with blanket statements. Each cloud provider has different points of failure. And each individual service usually has unique high availability options too. Understand these options for the cloud services you use. You might design site-wide failover, or just redundancy for individual components in your solution - duplicate frontends, database replicas, etc. Some things you build won't require 100% uptime (and wouldn't justify the associated cost 💰). It's our job to understand the requirements so the design can strike the right balance. Other services can be mission-critical, and the cost of downtime can be so high that you can justify things like complete multi-site redundancy.
