What is ISO 10012?

ISO 10012 specifies requirements for a measurement management system that ensures confidence in the validity and reliability of measurement results.

It provides a structured framework to help organizations design, implement, maintain and continually improve measurement processes across their operations. The objective is to ensure that measurements used in design, development, production, testing, monitoring and service delivery are fit for purpose and capable of supporting product and service quality.

This second edition replaces ISO 10012:2003. It has been restructured to align with the harmonized structure used in management system standards and revised to reflect the needs of interested parties.

ISO 10012 can be used by organizations in any sector that rely on measurement results to demonstrate product or service conformity and quality performance.

Why is ISO 10012 important?

Reliable measurements are essential for consistent quality. Inaccurate or unreliable measurement results can directly affect product conformity, regulatory compliance and customer satisfaction.

ISO 10012 helps organizations manage the risks associated with measurement processes that could lead to incorrect results. It provides a systematic approach to ensuring that measurement equipment, processes and supporting activities are properly controlled and capable.

The standard supports organizations that need to demonstrate confidence in their measurement results and to strengthen the robustness of their quality management systems.
