Ross Pearson is a horticulturist, garden writer and lecturer based in Northumberland, UK, where the rugged landscapes and rich gardening heritage have shaped his approach. With a lifelong love of plants and the outdoors, Ross combines practical experience with a deep knowledge of horticulture to help others garden with confidence, imagination and a sense of joy.
After qualifying as a professional horticulturist, he honed his gardening as First Gardener at the internationally renowned Alnwick Garden, one of the UK’s most celebrated public gardens. Working at this scale sharpened his eye for detail, plant care and seasonal drama, and cemented his belief that good gardens should be both beautiful and welcoming.
Education has always sat alongside practice in Ross’s career. He spent several years as a Lecturer of Horticulture at Northumberland College, training the next generation of gardeners, and is currently the Lecturer in Horticulture and Heritage Crafts at St Cuthbert’s Society, Durham University, a top 100 Global University and UK University of the Year.
Ross is a garden writer, contributing to national titles including Amateur Gardening and Living North. His writing blends his vast practical advice with humour and an honest appreciation of real gardens.
