Jonny D. McCoy, Esq., is a partner of Axelrod & Associates and a criminal defense, personal injury, civil rights and workers compensation attorney that has been in practice since 2008. In October of 2009, Mr. McCoy experienced an event that set the trajectory for his career in fighting for victims’ rights. One ill-fated night in Columbia, Mr. McCoy was falsely arrested and while unlawfully incarcerated, witnessed another inmate lose his life by suicide. As fate would have it for Mr. McCoy, his wrongful arrest was captured by hidden surveillance video cameras that not only proved his innocence, but also that the officers lied on official reports relating to this wrongful arrest. He won his lawsuit against his wrongdoers and used the funds from his settlement to open the Law Office of Jonny D. McCoy in 2013 where he focused on fighting for the rights of the falsely accused and injured.
Mr. McCoy’s undeniable passion for justice has propelled him into the limelight while representing high-profile clients. Over the course of his career, he has represented a defendant involved in the infamous Alex Murdaugh Murder saga, professional athletes, reality and television stars, public officials, and major corporations. Mr. McCoy and his cases have been featured on major networks such as Netflix, Hulu, the Today Show, Dateline, 48 Hours and Good Morning America as well as in the New York Times and in the Washington Post. Mr. McCoy has also served as a legal commentator for ABC, NBC and CBS news.
In addition to his extensive trial experience, Mr. McCoy has settled injury cases for millions of dollars, including an $11,250,000 single plaintiff settlement for the civil rights violations of a man shot over 28 times during an unlawful search and seizure. Mr. McCoy is a trial attorney at heart and he has tried multiple cases to verdict ranging from DUIs to Murder and takes immense pride in his reputation as a trial attorney.
In 2025, Mr. McCoy merged his law practice with Axelrod & Associates P.A.; joining a reputable practice deeply connected with the Myrtle Beach community including a multifaceted team consisting of skilled attorneys with over a combined 100 years of legal experience.
