Shinead James Cotton

Shinead J. Cotton, Esq. is an Associate Attorney for Axelrod & Associates and focuses her practice on Family Law matters. She is a native of Horry County, born and raised in Loris, SC. She is a graduate of Clemson University with Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and minor in Political Science.

Shinead attended law school at Charleston School of Law in Charleston, SC.  While in law school, she was named to the Dean’s List, received The CALI Excellence for the Future Award, and the Charleston School of Law Pro Bono Populi Service Award. She also served as intern at South Carolina Legal Services and was a judicial extern for The Honorable Daniel E. Martin Jr., with the Charleston County Family Court. She graduated with her Juris Doctor degree in 2018. Shinead has spent most of her career assisting low-income individuals and domestic violence victims with family law matters.

Shinead is licensed to practice law in both South Carolina and North Carolina and is also an Associate with the SC Family Law Inn of Court. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar, North Carolina State Bar, and Horry County Bar Association. Shinead is an active participant with the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD), where she co-chairs the Diversity Committee and is a graduate of the South Carolina Bar Leadership Academy Class of 2025.

In her free time, she enjoys crafting and spending time with her husband and children. Shinead is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
