Pun Name Generator — Funny Wordplay Names

Three length controls shape the output. First-name only (good for characters and social handles), full first-and-last (the standard pun-name format), or full first-middle-last (for over-the-top satirical or business contexts). The generator weights for syllable balance — first names of 1-2 syllables paired with 2-3 syllable last names usually scan better than the reverse, and the AI is prompted with that constraint.

Tone controls separate clean wordplay from sharper humor. Family-friendly mode keeps the output usable for school assignments, business contexts, and middle-grade fiction. Standard mode allows mild adult humor (innuendo and double-entendre on the level of British sitcom names). Edgy mode produces sharper, more risque puns suitable for adult comedy and drag. The tone setting affects both vocabulary and the type of wordplay (homophones, spoonerisms, portmanteaus, malapropisms — the AI weights different techniques for different tones).

Three audiences drive most use. Writers and screenwriters generating background-character names en masse for novels, scripts, and tabletop campaigns where every NPC needs a quick name. Drag performers and burlesque artists picking stage names where the pun is part of the brand.
