Working closely with senior specialists, the Cataloguer will be responsible for researching and cataloguing property to the highest scholarly standards, supporting valuations, and contributing to business development initiatives. The role will involve direct interaction with clients, collectors, and external experts, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to represent the department confidently and professionally. The Cataloguer will play an integral role throughout the sale cycle, from property evaluation and catalogue production through to pre-sale client engagement and auction execution. As such, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of world-class auctions while maintaining the highest standards of connoisseurship, accuracy, and client service. This position requires a highly organized and collaborative individual who can manage multiple priorities, exercise sound judgment, and thrive in a fast-paced and team environment. PMA director and CEO Daniel H. Weiss and Mitchell Wein, the institution’s executive vice president and chief financial and operating officer, chalked up the gap to flat contributions, admissions, membership, and earned revenue. Weiss told the Inquirer that the deficit was “substantial but solvable,” noting that the institution had made up for the shortfalls through cash and reserves. “The way I would describe it is, we have a savings account for rainy days. We’re spending it,” he said. “We need to stop doing that.”

The focus of the exhibition at Palais Lobkowitz is the Portrait of an Old Man, which was previously attributed to an anonymous painter. However, recent research suggests that the painter was none other than Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Known as the designer of St Peter’s Square in Rome and for his masterful sculptures, the Italian Baroque artist Bernini was one of the most outstanding artists of his time.

This new discovery from the Kunsthistorisches Museum’s collection is all the more spectacular given that only a few of his once numerous portrait paintings have survived. Around ten prominent international loans invite visitors to rediscover the great artist from a surprising and hitherto little-noticed perspective.

Simeon Solomon: Queer and Jewish in Victorian London is the first major museum exhibition in the United States devoted to Simeon Solomon (1840–1905), one of the most daring and distinctive artists associated with the Pre-Raphaelites. Described by Edward Burne-Jones as “the greatest of us all,” Solomon used his artistic practice to explore his sexuality and faith. He produced art that brought biblical narrative, religious ritual, and queer sensuality into unexpected dialogue.

Assembling over 180 paintings, watercolors, drawings, prints, photographs, and archival material, Simeon Solomon: Queer and Jewish in Victorian London follows Solomon’s vision across Jewish, Christian, and Greco-Roman subjects. These works range from Old Testament scenes to depictions of Sappho, Bacchus, and other classical figures—subjects through which Solomon gave form to beauty, longing, and same-sex passion.

We invite proposals that engage with collaboration across a broad range of media, practices, and perspectives, with early modern Antwerp as their center of gravity. Contributions might address the collaborative making of individual objects, the structures that enabled or constrained collaboration, the movement of designs and materials locally and globally, and the individual actors who shaped Antwerp’s culture of making. Papers may also call into question the spatial or institutional boundaries of artistic collaboration in Antwerp, as well as reconsider the categories through which artistic labor has traditionally been defined and valued. We welcome perspectives from beyond the visual arts, exploring how artisans collaborated with practitioners of the performing and literary arts, or with those working in natural philosophy and the emerging sciences. Finally, we encourage scholarship that sheds light on the contributions of women and underrepresented racial and religious groups connected to Antwerp’s artistic economy.

The gift includes artwork made by nearly 500 different artists, including Diane Arbus, Jenny Holzer, Antony Gormley, Rachel Whiteread, Bruce Nauman, Diego Rivera, Bill Viola, and Andy Warhol.

Salvador Salort-Pons, the director of the DIA, said in a press release that the mammoth gift from the Silvermans is among the most significant in the museum’s history, and that many of the recently-acquired works will be on display when the museum’s galleries reopen from renovations in November.
