When Mandy Moore re-renovated her Altadena home last year, she and her husband Taylor Goldsmith inevitably tapped AD100 talent Sarah Sherman Samuel: the actor’s longtime designer who also worked on the couple’s midcentury home in 2018.
True to her signature flair for whimsy, Samuel brought in lots of playful elements featuring warm colors, bright patterns, and contemporary silhouettes. Blessedly for us, many of these are also readily available through the designer’s collection with retailer Lulu and Georgia. We’ve waxed poetic about our love for the brand before, which was responsible for many of the new soft furnishings throughout the home—from the dining chairs to the bed frames, and even a mirror that captures the designer’s love for wiggly forms. The biggest perk of all for readers inspired by Moore’s charming interiors? All of the Lulu & Georgia pieces that we spotted in the home are on sale for 25% off this holiday weekend.
In the family’s kitchen dining nook, a pair of these antique-inspired Rivas dining chairs contrasts the surrounding pale wood tones.
The rippled edges on this mirror (squiggles being a Samuel signature) are the first thing that greets you in Moore’s home. The undulating frame hangs above a stone console table, adding depth to the all-white hall.
Moore’s moody dining room is a dream for eclectic design lovers. It features this sleek dining table, which plays off the upholstered high-back chairs (adorned in Samuel’s Garden Walk linen) and the rich navy paint on all sides.
Arguably the most recognizable piece in Samuel’s collection, the ripple chair is a playful accent that perfectly suits the children’s room in Moore’s home. The warm wood tones complement the duck egg walls, and the seats are durable enough to grow with the boys for years to come.
Flanking either side of Moore’s velvet bed frame are the brand’s Merrit nightstands, each with a slim silhouette that doesn’t overpower the airy primary bedroom.
Lulu and Georgia is known for seating that merges design-forward silhouettes with comfort, like the Cleary sofa that our senior vice president of commerce, Lisa Aiken, tested and loved. The Babs accent chair, also upholstered in a plush velvet, anchors Moore’s living room in a cheery shade of chartreuse. It complements the patterned sofa and draws the eye to the greenery outdoors.
For those looking for an understated, patterned rug, look to Samuel’s irregular grids. This one, in a dusty olive green, has a high pile texture and subtle geometric design for the right amount of visual interest.
Grand but never imposing, the Hyvaa bed frame is the opposite of bulky. Thanks to its rounded edges and off-the-ground build, the frame still allows the primary bedroom to breathe, even with a moody velvet upholstery.
